Sorti le 11 octobre 2011 sur Xbox 360, Forza Motorsport 4 constitue le quatrième volet de la série de simulations automobiles développée par Turn 10 Studios et éditée par Microsoft Studios. Le titre s'inscrit dans la lignée des références du genre, à l'instar de Gran Turismo, en mettant l'accent sur un réalisme poussé tant sur le comportement des véhicules que sur leur modélisation visuelle. L'expérience de base propose un roster de 500 voitures, allant des modèles de route aux bolides de course, qui s'affrontent sur des circuits fermés.
L'innovation majeure de cet opus réside dans l'intégration approfondie de la technologie Kinect. Au-delà de la navigation vocale dans les menus et du lancement des courses, le périphérique permet un suivi de la tête du joueur pour regarder vers l'apex des virages ou surveiller les adversaires, tout en conservant la manette ou le volant pour la conduite. Une alternative utilise Kinect comme unique contrôleur : le jeu gère alors automatiquement l'accélération et le freinage via une version modifiée de l'Auto Brake, tandis que le pilotage s'effectue en mimant la prise d'un volant invisible.
Côté longévité, la campagne principale demande environ trente heures pour être bouclée, tandis que l'obtention de l'intégralité du contenu peut mobiliser le joueur jusqu'à deux cent soixante-sept heures. L'accueil critique et public s'est révélé très favorable, le jeu affichant une note agrégée de 84,44. La presse a salué un titre « qui semble avoir couvert toutes les bases parfaitement » (Destructoid) et un retour « en grande forme avec plus de contenu que jamais », citant notamment le mode Autovista et l'intégration de Kinect « pour le fun » (Gameblog.fr). Du côté des joueurs, l'opinion dominante souligne une qualité qui « tient encore la route aujourd'hui » sur le plan graphique, sonore et des sensations de conduite, même si certains regrettent une similitude trop marquée avec l'opus précédent, Forza Motorsport 3, malgré des améliorations visuelles et sonores notables.

Forza Motorsport 1, 2 & 3 are far better. do not let the hype fool you. the rose tinted glasses Nostalgia is extremely strong with this game as far as reviews and perception goes. it’s a good game, but still not as good as it’s Trilogy predecessors. 5/10, an extremely underwhelming game, considering the hype around it. »
« Because this game relied so heavily on its multiplayer community, I can't say this game has aged as well as everyone else thinks it has. Sure, it has a lot to do, and a whole lot of quality content to experience BUT, the A.I. is weak compared to modern games so you will eventually get bored. The graphics have aged.... alright but nothing to write home about. What makes this game stand out, is the sheer number of cars and tracks, Jeremy Clarkson, and hours of things to do. »
