Official Nintendo Magazine UK 70/100

« The on-rails steering mechanic will be an insult to your gaming ability. [Apr 2008, p.79] »

Nintendo Power 65/100

« To Barrel Blast's credit, it looks like there was a concerted effort to make the game look better--a smooth frame rate and some nice effects spruce up an otherwise mundane racer. [Nov 2007, p.99] »

n-Revolution Magazine UK 62/100

« Decent but unspectacular, Donkey Kong Jet Race can be fun in spite of its many flaws. Wait for it to land in the bargain bins. [Issue#19, p.76] »

games(TM) 60/100

« Despite all of its problems, you’ll almost certainly have a great deal of fun playing Donkey Kong Taru Jet Race. [JPN Import; Sept 2007, p.118] »

IGN AU 58/100

« Does the idea of a lipstick-wearing gorilla in a tight shirt and cut-offs who blows you a kiss from in front of a pink heart frame when you beat a challenge turn you on? If the answer is yes then this may be the game for you. »

NintendoWorldReport 55/100

« A strange beast full of half-baked ideas and poor controls, yet it contains deceptively clever level designs. »

GameTrailers 52/100

« Had Barrel Blast come out just after the Wii’s launch, it would be forgivable, if still not a very good game. But at this point in the system’s life cycle, releasing long-delayed GameCube games with Wii controls grafted onto them is a no-no, especially when said game is published by the system’s manufacturer itself. »

GameDaily 50/100

« The Wii remote and Nunchuk simply don't work well at all, forcing you to constantly build up speed and perform frustrating motions to do even the simplest of maneuvers like dodging on-track objects and jumping. Avoid this bottom of the barrel release. »

« I hope you have really good swinging motion on this game because it takes a lot of Up and Down Swinging animation to move left and right because it looks hard but it's also a workout »

« when my mother was pregnant, she wanted to get rid of fetus me (i was a bad fetus) so she bought a copy of barrel blast, hoping it had similar effect to smoking 6 packs a day. but with that first swing of her arm, she was invested. no sleep, no eating, she just sat there peeing herself playing donkey kong. she wanted me to join in on the fun, so she swallowed a wii remote whole. we played for hours. then, eventually i was born, and she named me after the best character. she died due to pregnancy complications or plastic ingestion or cancer or something. 100/10 changed my whole damn life... and if there is any kalypsos who want a kludge like me hmu »

« If you like racing the WII and donkey kong get this game otherwise you might not get your moneys worth. »

S1nc31987 10/10

« This game is sublime, aided and abetted by the first and only playable appearances of Kludge and Kalypso. »

Jett_Pyre 2/10

« The motion controls in this game totally blow and will make your arms tired. If only it came out on the GameCube and used the bongo controller instead of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Do yourself a favor and SKIP this game. »
