Dead Rising 4, développé par Capcom Game Studio Vancouver et édité par Microsoft Studios et Capcom, est sorti le 6 décembre 2016 sur PC et Xbox One. Le jeu place le journaliste Frank West dans un Willamette, Colorado, en proie à une épidémie infestant le Willamette Memorial Megaplex Mall et ses alentours, et propose un monde ouvert où affronter de nouveaux zombies à l'aide d'armes et de véhicules combinables, d'exosquelettes et de nouvelles classes de zombies, avec un mode coopératif à quatre joueurs. Classé parmi les shooters, aventures et hack 'n' slash, il utilise le moteur Forge et le DRM Denuvo Anti-Tamper, et affiche un temps de completion de dix heures pour l'histoire principale et trente-neuf heures pour le profil completionniste.
L'accueil critique est mitigé, avec un score Metacritic de 74 et un OpenCritic de 72. La presse a salué l'expérience, comme Attack of the Fanboy évoquant un mélange des meilleurs éléments de la série en une expérience de massacre de zombies en monde ouvert spectaculaire, ou GamingTrend décrivant le titre comme sanglant, chaotique et hilarant pour se détendre. Certains joueurs regrettent toutefois un récit peu intéressant et une progression plate, tandis que d'autres jugent le jeu amusant malgré une histoire moyenne, et des avis positifs sur Steam le qualifient simplement de « really fun ».

« Dead Rising 4 is able to take the best elements of the older and newer games in the series and mash them into a spectacular open-world zombie-slaying experience. The game’s core gameplay is just so engaging and enjoyable that diving into hordes after hordes of zombies to wreak havoc never gets old, and having Frank West back in the action makes it even better. The series is certainly in a much different spot now than it was 10 years ago, but its future has never looked brighter. »

« The fourth addition of this open-world action packed game is the most zombie filled yet but don’t feel like you need to have played its predecessors to enjoy this one. With optional tutorials getting you through the basics you will quickly find yourself becoming distracted finding new and better ways to kill zombies before you realise that you have forgotten about the main storyline. So please excuse me, I have to return to humming Christmas tunes while I kill some more zombies! »
« Dead Rising 4 is a continued testament to what makes the series fun, that being how it doesn’t take itself so seriously like many other zombie games out there. Capcom Vancouver has done a great job with this latest game in the Dead Rising series, and although some may argue that the omission of the 72-hour timer is a mistake, we think it was a great idea as it should make the game that more enticing to so many gamers. »

« Un juego que consiste en pegar y recolectar objetos. Tal cual. No hay una historia interesante que lo sustente, la progresión es planisima, el disñeo de nivel está demasiado poco trabajo a pesar de tener un mapa grande y un decorado bonito. La idea para un juego indie hecho en unity, pero con los gráficos de un AAA. Se hace aburrido a las 3 o 4 horas. »
« Game is defenitley not the best Frank West Dead rising, but its still fun, story is meh but the main premise of the game is atrocious but awesome weapon designs and combat. the game still sticks to its guns. I'm taking a few points off for the meh story and just how bare bones it is in the narrative and how rushed the side quests are. Changed my rating to a 6 after that end boss fight, it was like a 40-minute boss fight because Calder (Main boss) kept recharging, and you kept having to stalemate an easy boss. The fight was easy but just so long for no greater reward or meaning, just playtime. »

« It's an incredible game, one of the best in the franchise, it's not better than 3 but it URGENTLY needs an update to 60FPS, I'm trying to play but 30FPS is horrible.Microsoft needs to wake up and start optimizing the games that were and are exclusive to the Xbox. What goes on inside the company? Nobody supervises or analyzes the games, everything is left abandoned »

« Decepción, un juego que hizo que cayera Capcom Vancouver y con ello muchos más juegos de ahi. Toda la esencia que tenían los otros juegos desapareció en este mismo, lo bueno es la jugabilidad divertida y el modo de Capcom Heroes, por eso le di el 3 y no una menor calificación. »
