Contra: Rogue Corps, développé par Konami et dirigé par Nobuya Nakazato, est sorti le 24 septembre 2019 sur PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch et Xbox One. Ce jeu de tir arcade et de plateforme en vue à la troisième personne propose un combat rapide et focalisé, situé plusieurs années après les événements des Alien Wars, où d'anciens militaires devenus chasseurs de primes évoluent dans la Damned City peuplée d'ennemis démesurés et violents. Les joueurs accomplissent des missions en campagne joueur contre environnement pour récolter des ressources, améliorer leurs armes et réaliser des augmentations organiques ou cybernétiques, avec la possibilité de jouer en coopératif local et en ligne. Le moteur Toylo Engine est utilisé, avec un DRM Steam et un prix de 11,99 euros. Le temps de completion de l'histoire principale est indiqué à 14 heures et celui du profil completionist à 82 heures et demie. Le score OpenCritic est de 51 et la note agrégée de 46,79.
La presse a salué certains aspects du titre, comme PlayStation LifeStyle qui a confié avoir fini par beaucoup apprécier Contra: Rogue Corps malgré ses réticences initiales, ou Hobby Consolas qui a estimé que le jeu conserve le goût classique de la série, rapide, amusant et spectaculaire, tout en regrettant l'absence de certains modes et des problèmes techniques. De son côté, un joueur sur Metacritic juge le jeu sous-estimé mais pas particulièrement bon une fois la légende de la franchise mise de côté, tandis qu'un autre déplore l'introduction d'un système de surchauffe des armes incompatible selon lui avec l'esprit de Contra.

« Despite my initial hesitation, I found myself really digging Contra: Rogue Corps. My fears that it looked like a cheap, grody-looking, nothing game trying to cruise on a classic IP ended up being completely unfounded. »

It plays more like Smash TV cosplaying as Contra with several nods to classic Contra titles. In the end, anyone wanting a return to the glory of 2D Contra won’t find it here, but removing expectations of what Contra should be will find a great deal of entertainment. The intro mission establishes that this is a title that doesn’t take itself seriously; it’s simple, over the top dumb fun with nonstop carnage and some dark humor. The characters, enemies and scenarios are all ridiculous but that is what makes the game so enjoyable. »

« Contra Rogue Corps is an understandably underrated game, it's not particularly good of course but if you set aside the legacy of the franchise not being respected then it is a decent twin stick isometric shooter. When it comes to the narrative and presentation of the game is pretty much nonexistent, the dialogue is abysmal, character models looks cringy as all hell, graphics are definitely not the best. When it comes to the combat and the action overall it's fun, it's challenging and overall rather fun. »
« All I wanted was a Contra game. ISince when do guns overheat in Contra? AFTER SHOOTING FOR 3 SEC OR 2 RPG SHOTS?!? this is one of those titles I can trace to my youth. Especially 1 & 3 (my fav) If they put all of this turd into a side scroller you could've **** a worthwhile game out. There was nothing enjoyable about this at all really.. »

« Complete rubbish, looks like an OG xbox game but still runs at crappy 60 Fps. What worse is it claims to be 4K on the enhanced console but is 720 p at best. Also claim to have HDR support, but it dose nothing. The tone , characters world , everything is stupid on bland. This is bargain basement crap and is an embarrassment to the Contra name »

« The game **** and the overheating guns should not be in any Contra game. can see how bad this game is but I love it.... Maybe there is something wrong with me .lol. I have a soft spot for twin stick shooters so I'll give it a 5. I only recommend this game for people who love twin stick shooters and if you are a hardcore Contra fan who doesnt mind overheating guns.. »
