Close to the Sun
Description (IGDB)
Close to the Sun is a story-driven horror game that takes place at the turn of the 20th century on a mysterious ship complex created by Nikola Tesla for the sake of knowledge. In this alternative version of history, his scientific breakthroughs have already had a major impact on the world. You’re a young journalist looking for your sister and, as you approach this enormous and glorious complex for the first time, you quickly realize that something there has gone horribly wrong..."
Histoire (IGDB)
It’s 1897. Deep in international waters, the Helios stands still. Dark clouds loom overhead as unforgiving waves crash against the hull. Colossal effigies of gold, decorated with magnificent finery, stretch as far as the eye can see. Born of Nikola Tesla’s vision, the Helios serves as a haven for the greatest scientific minds. An unbound utopia for research, independent from state and isolated from the gaze of society. Free to push the boundaries of matter and time. Journalist Rose Archer steps aboard the Helios in search of her sister Ada. She quickly discovers not all is as it seems. Grand halls stand empty. The stench of rotting flesh lingers in the air. Silence. A single word is painted across the entrance… QUARANTINE!

Description Steam (Français)

QUARANTAINE !

A pleasant surprise the game's atmosphere is honestly incredible; the visuals and music are really cool. The story is, I think, fairly predictable, but it’s still brilliant. The gameplay might be just a tad repetitive at times, but honestly, this gam...

Avis des critiques et joueurs
Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« Despite some limits, Close to the Sun is a nice ride through a big, scary ship. »
« Boasting gorgeous aesthetics and displaying a bold level of ambition, Close To The Sun is a highly atmospheric alternative history mystery, set aboard a remarkable location. »
« When Tesla fights with Edison, sparkles fly. An above-average story, perfect atmosphere and a decent pace. You will spend one great afternoon with the game despite its minor shortcomings. [Issue#304] »
« Close to the Sun deserves praise for the world it builds and just how gorgeously rendered that world is. There are moments of pure wonder throughout the campaign, but it doesn’t quite reach its full potential. Between an underdeveloped protagonist and a lack of meaningful collectibles, I was left wanting more. In the end, the problem is not that it flies too close to the sun, but rather it doesn’t fly close enough. »
« Storm in a Teacup did an excellent job in creating an intriguing and at the same time anxious setting, even if it’s held back by shallow puzzles and pointless action sections. »
« In the end, your enjoyment of Close to the Sun will depend on whether you want to be surprised. If you've played some of the previously mentioned games, you know exactly what to expect in terms of pacing and story, even if the subject matter is different. The lack of combat is an interesting choice, but the simple puzzles and slightly frustrating chase sequences dull the experience, while the inability to view collectibles after you leave a level significantly diminishes their value. »
« Although the slow tempo of the gameplay might not be appealing to everyone, and although the story could have ended much, much better, Close to the Sun is still a great title that easily worth 5 to 6 hours of your time. »
« Close to the Sun is one of the best examples of the “walking simulator” style of adventure game I’ve seen in quite some time. It does a wonderful job of blending the visual style of BioShock with the tense atmosphere of Outlast and slow-paced world-building of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. While the sometimes-obtuse puzzles and slow pacing can cause frustration and repetition, this is a harrowing and thoughtfully designed adventure from start to finish. »

« You can JUMP! And it’s absolutely good for NOTHING! Well, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE horror games — except I get so nervous that I can only play five minutes alone. And honestly, it doesn’t take much to scare me. I mean, I always get jumpscared in Minecraft when a creeper shows up, for example. So yes, I love the genre, but since my wife refuses to sit next to me when I play, I can barely finish the games I **** that’s why I'm beautifully proud of myself for finishing the second game of this style, after The Beast Inside, Close to The Sun. Careful though — not that this one is trying to be as scary as the previous one; it’s more of a mysterious polar-ish story than an actual horror **** be completely honest, CTTS is more movie than game. Sure, there are a few puzzles and some hard parts, but it’s more guided and cinematic than anything else. Which explains why the gameplay is super basic. In fact, it has fewer interactions, mechanics and possibilities than a Telltale game, but it’s ultra-short and straight to the point. It’s a little story. In that sense, to pass the time and discover it, it’s not a negative thing. But you can’t expect much. Also, the Steampunk style and Tesla’s presence add a nice charm to the whole thing. To sum it up: with not-too-high expectations, it’s worth it — if it’s on sale. »
« Continuous twists, magnificent exploration, it's a breathtaking design.Incredible plot, fantastic atmosphere, let's hope for a sequel »
« Story is good but you get more info of the story by reading letters and just exploring. Graphics are good but some characters look a bit iffy when they are at a distance. The controls are pretty good but in the chase sections is where the controls kinda underperform and the dark sections tend to be too dark to where you can't see anything or where your going without having to turn the brightness up all the way but overall the game is good and I see good things in this studio's future »
Trochę wytraca to z immersji.
« I still haven't figured out where the "journalist" was there. What is she a journalist in? They took the aesthetics of Bioshock, cutting out all the mechanics, and elevated its worst motivations to a farce - and what's the point? At least, we got main character's full model. And, that's it... Gameplay: combat mechanics 0/10 atmosphere 7/10 Gameplay as immersive horror 2/10 Story 4/10 Graphics [why Bioshock Remastered looks better?] 8/10 Sounds & music 7/10 . Minus a score for defective consolish controls and a circus in pursuits. »
« I really disliked this game. It switches between being a walking simulator and being chased through areas you haven't visited before which makes those pure trial and error. The graphics and story are nice but the gameplay is very bad. It's also way too linear. If you like playing a game that switches between being boring and frustrating, this game is for you. Otherwise I wouldn't touch this. »
