Description (IGDB)

Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition expands the scope of chess to include broader principles of learning. Josh Waitzkin's much-anticipated book The Art of Learning (Free Press) is designed to pave the road to successful long-term growth on and off the chessboard. The eight-time National Chess Champion and two-time martial arts World Champion puts users in his shoes in some of the most riveting and formative moments of his chess career, including the legendary climactic game from the book and film Searching for Bobby Fischer. Waitzkin then turns to the classics, introducing beginners to brilliant games from some of the most important players in the history of chess. In his most revealing commentary ever, Waitzkin not only teaches the beginning chess player the fundamentals of the game, but also humanizes the road to mastery. Never has chess been so exciting.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

PC Gamer 85/100

« As a one-stop shop for an entire chess-playing and learning family, this package should last until you're all grand masters. [Apr 2008, p.64] »

GamingTrend 80/100

« A really great chess game. The presentation values are excellent, and it has a wonderful training mode which includes fully-voiced tutorials from Josh Waitzkin. »

PC PowerPlay 80/100

« Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition maintains the franchise’s unassailable position as the king of chess sims. [Mar 2008, p.64] »

Game Almighty 75/100

« The only thing missing from this experience was an actual video of eight-year-old Josh crying at the end of the game. I would have paid a lot of money to see that. »

GamesRadar+ 50/100

« Even though most gameplay and options tend to be predictably consistent, The Art of Learning is a great tool for skill building and is put together in a simple easy to use package with something to offer everyone. »

DrVarsims 7/10

« The chess knowledge contained within the Academy is fantastic, with great commentary and interaction. As a beginner in chess this game greatly expanded my knowledge of strategy/tactics in the openings, middle game, and end game. However, the application itself is clunky and unintuitive. The menus are not the easiest to navigate and the 3D graphics are quite poor, even by 2007 standards. »
