Borderlands
Borderlands
Description (IGDB)
Borderlands is an action role-playing first-person shooter set on the distant planet of Pandora. Players choose from four characters, each with distinct combat abilities, and explore an open world rendered in a distinctive cartoon-style visual approach. Gameplay revolves around completing missions, defeating enemies, and collecting procedurally generated weapons with varying statistics and elemental effects. The game supports cooperative play for up to four players, with enemy difficulty scaling based on the number of participants.
Histoire (IGDB)
In a distant future where mega-corporations colonize and strip-mine entire planets, four mercenaries known as Vault Hunters arrive on Pandora, a lawless frontier world abandoned by the corporations that once exploited it. Drawn by legends of an alien Vault containing priceless technology left behind by a vanished race called the Eridians, they begin piecing together clues to its location with guidance from a mysterious entity known only as the Guardian Angel. Standing in their way is the Crimson Lance, a private military force deployed by the Atlas Corporation, which seeks the Vault's power for itself. As the Vault Hunters collect the artifact fragments needed to unlock the sealed chamber, they learn the Vault can only be opened once every two hundred years, and the next opening is fast approaching.

Take-Two CEO says "Borderlands wouldn't have been a hit" without $50 million art style change gamble
For those who probably don't have a few grey hairs yet, the original Borderlands started life looking eerily similar to every other aesthetically muted mid-2000s shooter. When it was initially revealed in 2007, it was more Mad Max than Mad Moxxi, following the vogue set by the likes of Gears of War and Halo. However, the devs at Gearbox Software knew this wouldn't be enough to set it apart. In a fresh interview with podcaster David Senra, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick regales the eleventh-hour pitch that changed the series' trajectory, and the call he had to make knowing how much time and money - a whopping $50 million - it would take. Is Borderlands 4 Steam Deck compatible?
Borderlands 3 recently reappeared on the Steam Deck's most-played games list, which suggests that if the Borderlands 4 Steam Deck rating is either Playable or Verified, it could prove popular on the handheld. Alas, even though the game is finally out on PC, Valve has yet to provide a rating, so we're still left making predictions based on the specs, for now. If we use the Borderlands 4 system requirements to make an initial judgment, it's fair to say that Borderlands 4 could struggle on the aging Steam Deck hardware, even with tools like FSR and frame generation available. We still consider Valve's portable to be the best handheld gaming PC despite its limited power, but it and many other gaming handhelds may struggle to meet the demands of this looter shooter. Avis des critiques et joueurs
Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« Borderlands is a excellent title, which is a must have for fans of both FPS and RPG games. »
« Co-op is a blast, the variety of weaponry lends an addictive quality to the game that's rarely seen, and it maintains a distinct sense of humor and personality. It's a long-lasting experience that manages to stay fresh throughout, and the ability to easily jump into a friend's game at any time only lengthens the appeal of an already stellar title. »
« The bottom line is that this game is near-perfect and if you love looting then this is the game for you. »
« The jump-in, jump-out aspect of multiplayer mode is great for people who like to play both solo and multiplayer. And while FPS/multiplayer extremists may find the questing a bit grindy (as one confided to me after a few days of playing), there really is a je ne sais quoi about this game that totally rules. »
« Even with its technical drawbacks, Borderlands is a shooter for people who want something a little more engaging. It will remind you of every FPS you’ve enjoyed over the last few years, stealing bits of brilliance here and there to make its own enthralling experience. »
« It’s not just an RPG, not just a Diablo-style dungeon-crawling loot-whore game; no, Borderlands managed to actually cram in some satisfying FPS combat that doesn’t feel tacked-on. It succeeds as both an RPG AND a shooter and for that alone, it's definitely worth your money and your time. »
« The fun I had with the rock-solid gunplay and extensive role-playing elements was considerably amplified by each additional player. Borderlands is an absolute blast that I'll go back to again and again, even if my friends aren't around to help out. »
« Borderlands is one of the year’s most enjoyable games, and I highly recommend it—even to those who may not like shooters or RPGs, because there’s a lot to like from this interesting hybrid. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« Borderlands is a great old game. Thanks to it, the essential system of the saga originated: the incredibly varied loot, characters with skill trees that differ in how they're played, charismatic enemies, and brutal environments ravaged by bandits. The problem is that it lacks development. The more you play, the more repetitive everything becomes, especially the side missions (I hate the "collect this" missions). The gunplay feels clunky and the story is a big letdown, as it unfolds through descriptive mission texts. There are hardly any cutscenes to develop the plot or conversations that delve into the characters' ideals. For me the game is a solid 6/10. »
« Borderlands is not for everyone for its art style, level design and gameplay. »
« Borderlands não é para qualquer um, serei sincero. Um dos maiores exemplos (se não o maior) do gênero looter shooter, suas especificidades podem não agradar a todos, mas seu humor, seu estilo único e sua jogabilidade podem divertir até os mais **** jogue com amigos. »
« Great game. Borderlands is an amazing game unlike the movie, I love all the quirky characters and all of the missions and side quests »
« Literally so f ing boring. Gameplay is dated as hell and I just don't care. I'm just slogging my way through the game. »
« _Good game _ »
« This is a hard game to ignore. The original of the series definitely shows its a bit long in the tooth graphically and with some issues with hitboxes and animation but over all this is still a masterpiece. The game is fun every time I go to play it, it almost always plays different because of the style of equipment that drops and what you find. I feel as both a single player game and multiplayer game it is hard to ignore when saying it is a staple and one of the more iconic series in modern gaming. »
« The game series is known for its unique blend of chaotic action, dark humor, and a vividly stylized world filled with interesting characters. Unfortunately, the film adaptation struggles to capture the essence that made the games so beloved, resulting in a disappointing experience. Characters: Lacking the Charisma and Depth The Borderlands games are populated by an eclectic cast of characters, each with their own memorable quirks and personalities. Sadly, the movie’s portrayal of these characters falls flat. Despite the presence of a talented cast, the film’s script does not give them much to work with. Iconic figures like Lilith, Claptrap, and Handsome Jack are reduced to one-dimensional caricatures, missing the layers of depth and humor that fans have come to expect. Tone and Humor: Forced and Uninspired Jack Black needs to hang it up. Humor is terrible in this movie. Plot: A Disjointed and Unengaging Narrative Perhaps the most significant flaw of the Borderlands movie is its plot. While the games are known for their chaotic and sometimes convoluted storylines, they are also driven by strong character motivations and a sense of progression. The film, however, offers a disjointed narrative that struggles to maintain momentum or coherence. The pacing is erratic, with scenes that drag on or feel disconnected from the overall story, making it difficult to stay invested in the plot. Final Analysis - A Disappointment for Fans and Newcomers Terrible. »
