Blair Witch VR, édition en réalité virtuelle du jeu d'horreur psychologique scénarisé développé par Bloober Team, est sorti le 12 août 2021 sur SteamVR et PlayStation VR. Conçu par les créateurs de The Medium, ce titre indépendant d'aventure plonge le joueur dans la peau d'Ellis, un ancien policier au passé difficile, parti rechercher un garçon disparu dans la forêt des Black Hills près de Burkittsville, dans le Maryland, et confronté à la menace de la Blair Witch. Repensé pour la VR avec des environnements plus interactifs, de nouvelles mécaniques pour le chien Bullet et de nouvelles créatures, le jeu utilise le moteur Unreal Engine 4 et est proposé au prix de 24,99 euros. La presse a salué une expérience horrifique solide portée par l'audio et la présence de Bullet, tandis que certains joueurs regrettent une direction artistique datée et un prix élevé au regard d'une durée de vie d'environ cinq heures, d'autres recommandant le titre pour son immersion effrayante en VR.

« Overall, Blair Witch VR is a solid horror experience with some super scares. The excellent audio and your dog, Bullet, elevate what would be a pretty standard experience. Dog lovers take note. Bullet is a great companion, and the game has some deft touches where you can reach out and pet him or scratch his ears. A little thing but one that really connects you to the world. »
« As a regular game, this title would likely have underwhelmed me somewhat with its basic gameplay and simplistic puzzle-exploration nature. The story is intriguing and hits its stride in the second half, but follows some usual tropes, doesn’t land all of its more complex themes and is relatively predictable. As a VR title though, the atmosphere of the forest, the foreboding sense of dread and the feeling of unease is ever present and amplified from the immersion of the headset and excellent audio design. It’s a great experience in VR and worth having a go with if you love all things horror or psychological thriller, just don’t expect to be scared to death or for anything deep gameplay-wise. »
« From Blair Witch: VR Edition’s unsatisfying attempts at terror to forgettable characters and absolutely poor graphics, you have plenty of reason to skip this hike through the woods. Throw in some game-breaking bugs and glitches to an already lacking experience, and your $29.99 is better spent elsewhere. Let this be a testament that horror games don’t always need a VR port to continue to be scary. »
