Valkyria Chronicles 4

« When alls said and done VC4 is a behemoth of a game with insane replay value, and a great cast of characters. Here’s hoping the next entry can wow us all over again. »
« 10 years after Valkyria Chronicles, the franchise is now resurrected thanks to Valkyria Chronicles 4. Deep and filled with interesting characters, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is breath-taking and is only marred by some minor flaws. »
« Valkyria Chronicles 4 weaves an emotionally charged tale about how war changes everything it touches and even through moments where winning felt just as bad as losing, I felt compelled to push forward to the end. As a title that carries the heavy burden of expectations following the original’s pedigree of excellence as well as having to make up for a string of lackluster sequels that followed, Squad E carries on with its head held high, exceeding lofty expectations as it improves on nearly every aspect of the original, proving with utmost certainty that this is one of the finest series the genre has to offer. »
« A game that justly pleases a small niche of players who know how to appreciate the finesse of a good tactical RPG...Valkyria Chronicles 4 is just the game we expected and the sequel that many yearned for since in 2008. »
« Valkyria Chronicles 4 has the unenviable task of reinvigorating a series that hasn't seen a mainline home console entry in over a decade, as well as washing away the bad taste left in players mouths after the dreadful Valkyria Revolution. That it succeeds so comfortably on both fronts is at once a surprise and a delight. The storyline is thoughtful and engrossing, the cast is varied and likeable, and the combat is challenging and rewarding throughout. This is the game Valkyria Chronicles fans have been waiting for, and one that newcomers to the series should be equally excited for. »
« Though familiar mechanics and units remain, excellent new features and conveniences transform the way you see the battlefield. »
« An excellent game, compelling in both its character roster and its gameplay. »
« For the first time since the very first Valkyria Chronicles, it feels like the series has realized its full potential. It’s easily the longest Valkyria game yet, but it doesn’t suffer for it. Longtime fans have a lot to love here and for newcomers, it’s the very best place to try the series out. »

« I think anyone who enjoyed VC1 will enjoy this but I’d probably recommend those new to the series to start with the original. VC4 offers some really interesting gameplay tweaks and probably has better combat overall however I think the story is not as good as VC1. Overall a very fun game and worth a purchase. »
« With the addition of new classes, a different perspective from VC1, and a fun new cast of characters to follow, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a top tier alternative to those who want something familiar to XCOM, but with its own little quirks to make it different enough. The first immediate striking thing is that art style, insuring that the game will age incredibly well in terms of visuals. Then there's the addition of the new Grenadier class, who use portable artillery to deal long range explosive damage. The story is incredibly well told, acting as an allegory for WW2/WW1, but with more fantastical elements. And the personal quirks of characters can make them ideal, or the worst soldiers for certain battlefields, which can make careful planning go a long way. All and all, Valkyria Chronicles is a peak franchise that deserves more love, and 4 shows off all the improvements the series has made. »
« Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a great SRPG game, in a WW2 inspired setting. The story is good, and the main characters are great. (It's not realistic if youre looking for a realistic war SRPG game). It has alot of RPG elements in terms of upgrading equipment and vehicles. Some battles can be pretty long. Art style and music is great. Would recommend if you want to get into this genre. 8.4 / 10 »
« I have never played this series but I think it could be bomb by trailer but it isnt. I get its anime but characters feels like they play hide and seek with friends and not fighting a war. The annoying tons of dialogues about trivial things is cherry on top. Too many mechanics that you must focus how to learn it. I thought I play a game not study in university lol Areas are just scenery and dont have some real battle use. I must say art style is great and original and also personalities of protagonist. If this will be a romance they will fit well. Not really fun for me. »
« An entertaining and fun turn-based strategy game combined with shooting and RPG elements, with good stories both in the main campaign and in the enjoyable side stories. Beautiful watercolor-like graphics, entertaining and strategic gameplay, just what you expect from this type of game, a large number of characters that you end up getting attached to. The only downside is that occasionally the enemy AI is clumsy. »
« I played this game for 75 hours doing everything and I think it deserves something between a 7 and 8. Although I honestly enjoyed more the first one I liked this one too but I still think there's room to improve. For instance, I don't like to move without knowing if I'll be able to pass between a tank an a wall. Also, the breastworks should only protect you from one side and not from all sides. I also don't like the ranking because it's only based on how the turns you are using to end the missions and you only get some more points when you destroy a tank. I think there should be more things to achieve the rank A and earn more points to level up like killing all the enemies, killing X number of enemies with one character or in one turn, or killing the officers. These are only a few things that I could think of because if you want an A in all of your missions you'll have to save the game many many times lowering the enjoyment of the game. Voice acting, as always, is very good. The anime kind of graphics are still cool and the gameplay is still great but again, I dislike the ranking parameters. »
« Valkyria Chronicles is one of those turn based RPGs with a twist. You can position your characters and they'll fire on enemies within their line of sight, allowing you to set up a form of defense that you can't really do in other games. You get different kinds of units including tanks, scouts, snipers, shocktroopers, lancers, medics, and the newly introduced grenadiers. Each one has their own functions and advantages. The story of the game is decent. Much like the other ones, it generally focuses on a single campaign of a much larger conflict with a few twists. They do a good job of making you sympathetic to a few of the villains, but also could have done a lot better with developing your allies as well. It's not bad, but it's not great either. The grenadiers presents the biggest problem for this game as they destroy the barricades and have the ability to fire pretty much anywhere any allies can see. Because of this, the cover system that was so prevalent in the previous games just suddenly feels pointless unless there's an indestructible roof over your head or a thick patch of grass your character can lay down on. Otherwise, the grenadier is just going to blast them. The most enjoyable part of the game for me tends to be the boss battles with the exception of the final boss battle because there's a lot of RNG involved in that one. Each one features some kind of unique mechanic that forces you to take advantage of their weak point in order to win. This makes it more interesting as it generally takes away from the grenadier problem, but not always as one of the bosses is just a super grenadier. »
« Lots of improvements compared to previous releases. Characters are much more interesting and likable, the voice acting is adequate, the gameplay is fun and gives you enough options to manage your army according to their chemistry between soldiers. Some nice character development going on with side stories. But, i didnt enjoy fighting the same kind of boss with broken powers over and over, makes you victories feel meaningless, so boss fights feel like a chore more than a rewarding achievement. »
