Description (IGDB)

G'day, Mate. Explore the wilds of Australia with TY the Tasmanian Tiger, the charming Aussie platformer. Stone the crows! Are you ready to explore the wilds of the Australian Outback in this remastered version of the classic game, TY the Tasmanian Tiger? Join TY on a ripper of an adventure to free his family from the dreaming and stop the nefarious evil genius boss cass from removing mammals from the top of the food chain. To help you on your quest, you've got a beaut arsenal of boomerangs, sharp teeth, and the help of a few friends!

Histoire (IGDB)

G'day mate! Things can be a bit confusing at times, so let me remind you what's going on... You are TY, the last of the Tasmanian Tigers. Raised by a family of Bilbies, you can only vaguely recall your real parents. You've always thought that all the other Tassie Tigers died a long time ago. But then the Bunyip Elder found you, and told you that your family is alive, but trapped in the Dreaming. Now hold your horses... don't get upset... you see they're not stuck there forever, if you're up for a bit of an adventure! You see, deep in the Outback, there's this kind of glowy portal thing that is a doorway to the Dreaming. And around that portal there are some carvings in the rock, where five ancient mystical Talismans used to lay. Now, all you have to do is find the five Talismans, put them in the carvings, and the portal to Dreaming will open! Now, before you go off like a frog in a sock, there's just this one SMALL problem. You see there's this evil cassowary - Boss Cass - who's also after the Talismans. Yes. THAT Boss Cass. The one that trapped your family in the Dreaming in the first place, and told the school board to remove all the meat pies from the tuck shops. And if you didn't think that made him enough of a megalomaniac, he's ALSO trapped a whole bunch of your Bilby mates in cages all across the outback... something about overdue library books... Anyways, if you want to open the portal, you'll have to beat him and his henchmen to the Talismans! Don't worry though, you won't be alone! You'll have a bunch of friends to help you along the way, including me - your old mate, Maurie. Now let's get down to brass tacks, find those Talismans, and rescue your family!

Major Update To Match Nintendo Switch™ Release

Hi all! To celebrate the North America release of the game for the Nintendo Switch™ (More information here!), we're happy to announce that we have released a major update for the game on Steam! HOORAY! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/12300363/260ab29eff2ae8ecd3021f37200ff77bb2e19aa7.gif A big thank you to all our wonderful Kickstarter backers! NEW FEATURES AND IMPROVEMENTS We've added a variety of skins to the game for you to equip on to TY! These are all unlocked from the start of the game, so you can have fun straight away! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/12300363/502f626c99bbb124ae665f908dd174ea35ed2a93.gif All video cutscenes in the game now have subtitles! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/12300363/134d11947218362cbd6733573a9c1bc1f1679085.gif We've completely remixed the audio for many of the major cutscenes in the game, adding in more and improved audio beyond anything that we could previously imagine (back when we had to fit the whole game into 32MB). Added Kickstarter backers to the credits. Thank you to all you wonderful people! Rendering performance improvements on minspec graphics cards. Improved level loading speeds. Improved visuals of grass rendering. Uncovered original high res map art in a TY 2 backup archive instead of the earlier upres (for the pause screen maps), barely escaping with our lives after a poor attempt at replacing the files with something of equal weight. BUG FIXES Prevent using the Action button to activate a trigger while a dialog is playing (because the user is likely intending to skip the cutscene, not trigger something). Fixed issue with the opening of portals to boss levels, if the player doesn't complete the cutscene sequence after obtaining a talisman. Fixes for several memory leaks. Fixes for several particles that were being added to the shadows for the levels. Enabled Anti-aliasing in the pause menu (if that graphics option is enabled). Fixes for several rendering errors with shared materials. Allow fall dive into shatterable objects in water. Fixes issue with sometimes being unable to shatter an underwater crate in Bridge on the River TY for Rex's diving tutorial. Fix graphical artifact in Outback Safari if a rang with a light (flame/frost) is equipped. (Please note, the game will release on the Nintendo Switch™ for Europe on the 3rd of April; and for Australia/New Zealand on the 4th of April).

Avis des critiques et joueurs

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

PSM Magazine 80/100

« The variety in its environments is quite high, and the large number of mission objectives will certainly challenge you for countless hours. However, the overall level of difficulty isn't that high. [Nov 2002, p.46] »

Play Magazine 80/100

« The game is also beautiful beyond measure, with water, weaving grass, snow, mud, and other terrain effects that, at least for now, are pretty much unequalled, and boast sound effects to match. [Oct 2002, p.68] »

Game Informer 78/100

« The platforming aspects have all been done before, and that will keep little Ty a sliver away from greatness.[Nov 2002, p.128] »

GameZone 76/100

« There’s nothing really exceptional about this game but if you’re looking for a well-made platformer with massive playing environments and plenty of amusing challenges, give Ty the Tasmanian Tiger a try. »

GameSpot 75/100

« Ty's difficulty is tuned for younger or casual gamers, but it also attempts to appeal to older players, who should still be able to appreciate the quality of the game even if it's a little on the easy side. »

Game Over Online 75/100

« This may be perfect for your little brother or sister as you try to indoctrinate them to the world of game playing, but for wily vets looking for a solid platform, you’ll probably wind up looking elsewhere. »

TotalGames.net 70/100

« And play through you will as the repetitive nature of the game offers very little challenge despite the inclusion of boss battles, secret areas and herding puzzles. At one point you will have to guide a giant lobster into a cave and seal it with falling stalactites. »

GamePro 70/100

« A very standard platform game marred by a wonky camera. »

Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)

Macklee 8/10

« This is one of my favorite games of all time and one of the most nostalgic ones for me, however i'm able to understand it's faults- the main two being a bit of convoluted missions and some issues with the camera. Some of the bosses are very odd and arent very logical in the way you're supposed to beat them. Same with some of the missions. The camera can also whip around for no reason when you don't want it to. But damn. For 2002, a pseudo-open-world platformer like this was an insane feat. And i'd definitely consider it one of the best on the ps2. It's short and sweet but really engaging and there's a decent amount to do. Apparently according to the developers there was supposed to be an additional world cut due to time constraints. That would have been cool to see for sure. Overall a must play on the ps2 and very nostalgic. 4/5. »

HuevoAlce 8/10

« Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is a fun platformer with charming characters and great level design. »

GregLobstery 9/10

« Pretty solid 3D platformer. Charming and unique. It's a shame its not looked back on quite like Spyro or Banjo Kazooie. »

Floozotoni 10/10

« [SPOILER ALERT: This review contains spoilers.] »

Str8Up 10/10

« This is one of the best titles on the PS2. It's a platformer like spyro with great control response time and plenty of challenging levels, but without staring at a chimeric booty the whole time, you get instead to focus on the environment with a variety of elemental ranged weapons. And what a great environment it is! Kids will love it. »

MazdoTechno 8/10

« A true classic the PS2 generation of games, Ty remains a fun game with a colourful cast of characters The different boomerangs you can obtain are awesome Fun classic PS2 game »

Untitled94 7/10

« This is a pretty good platformer. The only problems I have with it are the camera at times, the physics also at times, and some missions can be a little annoying. Otherwise, this is a great game. Great platforming, solid controls and a good story. Definitely a classic. »

Cash64 7/10

« It fell a bit flat. It's above decent, but it really doesn't stick out when compared to other collectathon games, such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and heck, even the controversial Super Mario Sunshine. »
