Twisted Metal: Head-On, développé par Incognito Entertainment et publié par Sony Computer Entertainment, est sorti le 24 mars 2005 sur PlayStation Portable. Septième opus de la série Twisted Metal, ce jeu de tir et de course automobile se distingue comme le premier titre de la franchise à être intégralement jouable en ligne. La presse a salué sa qualité, le site Into Liquid Sky y voyant l'un des meilleurs épisodes de la série et GameZone louant le premier jeu multijoueur de premier plan conçu pour une console portable, tandis que certains joueurs sur Metacritic ont apprécié l'ajout de modifications de véhicules en cours de partie après la défaite d'adversaires. L'agrégat de notes s'établit à 68,95. Le temps de jeu principal est estimé à quatre heures et à quinze heures et demie pour une partie complétionniste.

« a solid Twisted Metal game that introduces vehicular upgrades in-game after defeating opponents, adding variety to the vehicles and incentivizing survival to achieve dominance. This game also introduces side mini-game missions, optional and accessible through teleportation pads. The mini-games add variety but are not particularly engaging. The gameplay on PSP is nice and simple, but doesn't always feel like classic Twisted Metal, feeling a bit too dumbed down in its approach. While that doesn't effect the competitiveness of multiplayer there is virtually no competition to be had with the AI of the game that is predictable and not too challenging. The frenetic nature of the game is enjoyable enough to overlook that though, but the unoriginal style of the game, seemingly borrowing from Twisted Metal 2 for the most part, with a TM2 heavy roster with exception to Crimson Fury and a couple new vehicles, Cousin Eddy and ATV, who do not add much to the game's personality. The biggest strengths of the game are the maps, which are medium-large sized with plenty of open areas to fight in and destructible objects to interact with. The sound and music are also excellent as well, although the soundtrack still feels a step down in comparison to all the past TM titles. For example, the Paris level is remade and instead of a fun approach to the music it takes a more serious approach. This game feels like a sensitized version of TM2. All the fun edgy dark humor of Twisted Metal is seemingly lost, but it's still a very fun game, and the endings are good too, just not particularly interesting with the whole Marcus Kane=Needles Kane revelation that retconned the characters being separate individuals. There was no need to make Sweet Tooth someone's split personality, he worked better as a purely evil character. »
