Summer Athletics 2009
Summer Athletics 2009
Description (IGDB)
Summer Athletics: The Ultimate Challenge is a collection of sports events based on the Olympic Summer Games. It features 28 sports divided into eight disciplines: Swimming, jumping, throwing, cycling, running, platform diving, archery and the new skeet shooting (two variants). The handling is similar for all of them: rhythmic motions to keep the athlete moving and quick time events (pressing a button when it gets displayed on the screen) for performing certain actions. The mentioned rhythmic motions depend on the input device the player uses, e.g. at the swimming event the player needs to press two buttons alternately when using a keyboard and rotate the analog sticks when using a gamepad. The player character aims automatically during the skeet shooting, the player himself only has to shoot at the right time.

« What did 49 Games do during winter? Summer Athletics didn't change a lot compared to last year. Presentation, the frugal graphic and the disciplines only show slight signs of further development. It's still fun with when playing with others. »
« Summer Athletics 2009 includes indeed a lot of different sport events, but the differences between them leave a lot to be desired. The new coop- and splitscreen multiplayer-modes are also fairly amusing, but overall there is too little innovation. »
« I’m really disappointed from Summer Athletics 2009. Some disciplines aren’t playable on the keyboard. Also the missing online mode and the bad atmosphere are some more disadvantages from the title. The only advantages of Summer Athletics 2009 are the varying 28 disciplines and the career mode. »
