Steam Prison

« While I have some minor issues with Steam Prison, this is a glorious, thrilling adventure, told with expertise and panache. It goes to some very dark places, but never comes across as exploitative or "cheap" in how it does it. Backed up with gorgeous aesthetics and a distinct setting, Steam Prison blends some complex ideas together while ultimately keeping the focus on what people come to otome for - a great harem of men that are all so interesting that it makes choosing between them a real challenge. »
« Steam Prison is an extremely enjoyable visual novel in several respects, especially if you don’t mind romantic undertones in well-crafted fantasy stories. The Switch port includes the Fin Route DLC that was sold separately on PC and some general upgrades to music and art. This probably makes it the “ultimate” version of the title. If you haven’t yet played the game and are an otome fan, it is easy enough to recommend even at its hefty price for the sheer amount of content and replayability you get. However, I’d be hard-pressed to say if it is a sure-fire purchase if you’ve already played another version of the title since you’ve probably seen most of the content before. That said, as far as VNs go, Steam Prison is another solid addition to the Nintendo Switch lineup. »
« Was it worth the price? I had a good weekend with it, and it’s technically solid but not as fulfilling as some of the other visual novels on the platform. »

« Steam Prison is a beautiful game that presents well in art, music, and story. With diverse endings for all characters and a lovely musical score, I found it to be one of my more enjoyable otome games. Something interesting with Steam Prison is the multiple perspectives. I have noticed this increasing in popularity over the last few years that in some games has felt unnecessary or choppy. In Steam Prison, it has been executed extremely well. Where in previous games I would fast forward through a majority of what felt uninteresting, I found myself looking forward to the insight into the other characters perspectives. The one reason I give this a 9 instead of a 10 and my only caution; the MFC is... abrasive. I understand that this is a bravado character, one whom you do see character development for. I didn't like her in the beginning. I point of fact, I almost put the game down because I found her to be too much. HOWEVER... after making it through the first route and seeing her develop (not overly deeply in some routes, but...) I was able to look past most of it and enjoy the majority of the game. I love consequence based games and I will say the shear amount of content for such packed into this game is amazing. With at least multiple stories and endings for each of 6 characters and a rating system in the choices that not only increases affection but can also lower it, your story could end up in places you never see coming. Overall, Steam Prison checked all my boxes for both a consequence based game and a wonderful otome game. »
« Steam Prison was one of the more memorable otome games for me. The price of the game was a bit higher than most but after playing it, one will realize how much CONTENT the game packs! Each character has at least 5 endings, there's 6 characters in total, extra perspectives for each moment, after story, wedding eve story, plus 3 short stories for each character (plus for the side characters too!). There's just A LOT of content, keeping you immersed in the world of Steam Prison and your favourite character. The game also includes a well made tutorial guide for first time VN peeps! I spend a **** time with this game compared to the other localized otome games so even at its price point, I found it very worth. I won't dive in to the story too much, but the heroine is admirable, strong, and full of justice instead of having her heads in the clouds about love! There's a lot more plot than romance at times I would say with the story but the last 3 routes will satisfy you with the romance. There is some inconsistency like suddenly having the pendent when the character never bought it with them at all or etc but no major plot effecting issues. Overall, super impressed by this game, one of the top localization otome games for sure on my list. If you can grab it on sale, 1000% worth and if not, still okay compared to other otome games ($20 difference) especially for all those hours of gameplay vs the others. »
