Space Invaders: Infinity Gene, développé par Taito et publié par Square Enix et Taito, est sorti le 27 juillet 2009 sur PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Android et iOS. Classé parmi les genres jeu de tir et arcade, le titre affiche une note agrégée de 77,00.
Le jeu commence avec une apparence semblable au Space Invaders classique, mais il évolue au fil des parties en permettant de débloquer de nouveaux stages, des power ups et des fonctionnalités. La version complète comprend un total de 133 stages issus du mode normal et du challenge mode, ce dernier proposant des stages qui changent à chaque partie. Il est également possible de traverser des stages uniques générés à partir de la musique du joueur et de défier d'autres participants du monde entier en temps réel grâce au système Real Time Rankings.
Concernant l'accueil critique, le média 1UP a considéré que le jeu valait le coup d'être acheté au prix de 10 dollars, à condition de faire abstraction de stages courts et de boss répétitifs. Pour sa part, Gaming Age a salué une excellente réimagination de la série originale, jugeant le titre recommandable tant pour les amateurs des jeux « bullet hell » de CAVE que pour les nostalgiques du Space Invaders old-school.
