Sonic’s universe is thrown into chaos when a mysterious new power comes into force, creating ‘time holes’ which take Sonic and his friends back in time. Whilst there, Sonic runs into some very familiar characters from his past including a younger version of himself! Now they must team up to defeat their enemies, save their friends, and find out who is behind this diabolical deed.

Sonic Generations is a 2011 platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, and Nintendo 3DS. Produced in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, the game follows Sonic and his sidekick Tails as they form an alliance with their past selves and travel through levels from previous Sonic games. It features two gameplay styles: "Classic", which plays from a side-scrolling perspective like that of the original Sega Genesis Sonic games, and "Modern", 3D levels similar to those in Sonic Unleashed (2008) and Sonic Colors (2010).

Sega might've declared 2024 the Year of Shadow, but Shadow the Hedgehog has been enjoying the adoration of preteens entering their edgy red-and-black phase since he first declared himself the ultimate lifeform back in 2001. And who could blame them? Shadow's like the Platonic ideal of the hero's dark mirror archetype: He's grumpy, he's a reluctant hero, he's constantly proclaiming his superiority, he's got hair spikes with an arrogant upward sweep where the carefree locks of his lighthearted counterpart might droop downwards. « It was pretty good. The level design was great and the presentation was stellar. Things I didn't like include Planet Wisp, some of the challenges, and I wish the the remixed levels were a bit more unique like Mania's. »

« Sonic Generations is basically the ultimate "best of" album for the series. It’s a massive celebration of everything that makes Sonic great, successfully blending the classic 2D side-scrolling nostalgia with the high-octane 3D "Boost" **** standout feature is seeing iconic levels like Chemical Plant and City Escape reimagined with stunning, modern visuals. Playing as both Classic and Modern Sonic keeps the variety high, and the remixed soundtrack is an absolute standout. It’s easily one of the most polished and joyful entries in the franchise—a perfect love letter to fans that actually sticks the landing on both speed and platforming. But still hasn’t top Unleashed because of modern Sonic gameplay. And there are so many mods around to experiment with this game. »
« One of the most solid "boost formula" sonic games, however it's still a boost game. Linear, slightly boring. Classic stages are cool, but classic sonic's physics are kinda wacky. That said - I did thoroughly enjoy my time with this game. I had a lot of fun with the challenge levels, the story was solid and had its funny moments. It's a really fun game! Solid 8/10. »
