Slime Rancher, développé par Monomi Park et édité par Skybound Games et Monomi Park, est sorti le 1er août 2017. Ce jeu de tir, d'aventure, de simulation, de stratégie et indépendant, construit sous Unity, est disponible sur PC, PlayStation 4, Mac, Xbox One et Linux au prix de 18,99 euros. On y incarne Beatrix LeBeau, une jeune éleveuse partie vivre à mille années-lumière de la Terre sur le Far, Far Range, où elle tente de faire fortune en élevant des slimes colorés, en cultivant des cultures et en explorant les terres sauvages grâce à son vacpack multifonction. Le ranch que lui a légué Hobson Twillgers offre un cadre sandbox à la première personne où il est possible d'effectuer des quêtes, d'utiliser la slimologie et de choisir entre les modes aventure, paisible et ruée. Plusieurs mises à jour ont par la suite introduit de nouvelles zones comme la Nimble Valley ou The Wilds, des événements comme le Party Gordo ou Wiggly Wonderland, ainsi que des gadgets tels que les drones.
L'accueil critique a été favorable, avec un score Metacritic de 81 et un OpenCritic de 76. La presse a salué l'expérience, comme CGMagazine évoquant un titre aimé du début à la fin, ou Game Informer soulignant sa capacité à captiver pendant des heures. Certains joueurs regrettent toutefois une certaine répétitivité, tandis que d'autres recommandent le jeu comme une expérience calme et agréable.

« Very solid for a slime based game. My only issue with it is that at one point you dont really have all the many reasons to play the game anymore. You only get more slimes to get more money to then buy upgrades and collect keys to go to new areas in order to get more slimes and more money.
