Classé dans le genre simulation, le jeu propose de lancer des boules de papier froissé dans une corbeille, avec l'ajout d'un ventilateur générant du vent pour compliquer la tâche. D'après sa présentation, l'expérience vise à reproduire de manière réaliste le geste de jeter un papier dans une poubelle métallique, évoquant l'ennui au bureau. Certains joueurs interrogés sur Metacritic décrivent le titre comme un passe-temps où il suffit d'envoyer un papier à la corbeille en tenant compte de la vitesse du vent, tout en s'interrogeant sur la raison de sa présence sur leur téléphone.

« "Paper Toss" is another one of those time-waster. All you gotta do is flick a paper trash into the trash can but you have to throw it at a certain angle because the wind from a fan changes each time. »
« I have no clue why this is still on my phone. Basically, you flick a piece of paper to the trash can accounting for the wind speed introduced by a fan. It's entertaining for a short while, but after you've gone through the scenery, there's nothing there for you. There are ads. Everywhere. I guess that's the price of being a free app. There are much more enjoyable free apps on the app store than this. I'm gonna take this off my phone now and put space for some other game that's a bit more substantial. »
