GamesHub 100/100

« Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Nintendo Switch does an excellent job of letting the quirks of the original game shine, in a refreshed release that feels perfect for newcomers and Paper Mario veterans alike. »

GAMINGbible 100/100

« Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door accomplishes what it sets out to do: remake and revamp a beloved Nintendo classic for a new audience on the Nintendo Switch. If you were a fan of last year’s Super Mario RPG, this is undoubtedly the next step in your Mario role-playing journey, and it’s accessible to a wide variety of gamers. It’s a must-play adventure from start to finish, and one I couldn’t have been happier to embark on again. »

Player 2 100/100

« A wonderful title that deserves more love than it’s received here, but the test of time has been kind to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It was amazing then, and it is now. »

Siliconera 100/100

« Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is both the best Paper Mario entry and a Switch game everyone should own and play. »

VGC 100/100

« 20 years after its original release, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remains a treasure. With a refreshingly un-Mario-like script, a memorable and lovable cast, engaging turn-based gameplay, and more variety than your average Taylor Swift concert, the GameCube title is regarded by many as a classic entry in the plumber’s RPG lineage. »

God is a Geek 100/100

« Whether you’re replaying for the new visuals, or a very lucky first-time player, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is one of the best RPGs ever to come out of Nintendo. »

VG247 100/100

« Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is a richly-deserved, lovingly-crafted redo of a classic. It takes one of Mario’s finest spin-offs and does just enough to refresh it while retaining everything that made it beloved in the first place. I only hope this leads to more Paper Mario games in this vein. »

Hardcore Gamer 100/100

« Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is still, after all these years, the prime example of Paper Mario at its very best. Its writing is still funny, its characters are quirky and fun in ways that they just aren’t in other Nintendo games, its combat is simple yet deep enough to stay interesting throughout and it’s a visual and aural treat thanks to all the enhancements made by Intelligent Systems. The improvements made both in and out of combat also go a long way towards making the game shine even more than it already did. Sure, the extra tutorials can be annoying for longtime fans, but otherwise, this new version does the original justice and makes it an even more worthy addition to any Switch owner’s library. »

« While this game is definitely carried by nostalgia by most, it still stands out as an excellent and nearly flawless RPG with a lot of heart, imagination, and entertainment. Its fun to explore, its fun to read all the dialogue, its fun to solve puzzles, and its fun to battle enemies. Newer entries in the Paper Mario franchise could never quite reach the heights of TTYD mainly because they toned down the RPG elements and went more in the direction of a pure action-adventure title. That being said, in other categories the newer games have matched and even surpassed TTYD. Origami King has incredibly witty writing that is at least as good as TTYD, though I would argue is usually better. The battle mechanics in games like Color Splash and Origami King are different enough in a way which prevents them from being outright inferior to TTYD, but I would still say I prefer TTYD's action commands and special moves. The worlds of all these games, especially Origami King and TTYD are all filled with that signature Mario magic, but TTYD just has it in spades. I think at the end of the day, its the quirky characters that are each developed and expanded, the persistent party members and their unique abilities, the cartoonish worldbuilding and comedic sidequests, the paper aesthetic and the storybook/theatre play approach, the light metroidvania backtracking and steady drip of new abilities, and the surprisingly skill-based battle system, that make this game stand above the competition. This game was in my top 10 for years just based on nostalgia. Replaying it all these years ater, I can't reasonably put it above games like The Witcher 3 or MGS or God of War or HLD, but it still remains an incredible game start to finish, with only minor issues with regards to pacing. Overall I think this is an outstanding game that everyone can enjoy. »

« It is a very nice game, I like how everything is "paperfied", also creative areas and overall it is nice. The game is pretty easy and like relaxing until like chapter 5 (which is more than 60% of game already completed), after that, you can feel first struggles but for me, it is too late for the game to become challengin after half of the game. But what I hate the most about this game that 30% of gameplay are annoying unskipable dialogs with this annoying beeping. It was maybe fun from beginning but after 20 hours of playing, I would appriciate to skip or at least fastening the dialogs. Especially train chapter was super annoying and after that, I just gave up the game and just watched how it ends. It was good experience but definitelly not comming back to this game »

« Arguably the best paper Mario rpg there ever was. I loved each and every arc, but sometimes it drags just a smidge »

GibleGaming 10/10

« One of my all time favorite games. The quality of the remake is simply amazing, and the game itself has always been amazing. »

lonelydevil90 5/10

« Probably not my game. Too much boring yapping all the time for no reason and the combat is uninteresting and repetitive. I felt like just wanting to skip everything until I had to finally quit the game. »

Mister_Cicek40 10/10

« Peak gaming experience. Not just one of the best GameCube games or easily the best Paper Mario of all time but arguably one of the best games of ALL TIME. This Remake makes this game even more better. However , my only "issue" is that the soundtrack isn't as good as the original but you can change it with a badge! And they could add a Paper Luigi storymode as a DLC to this game! I hope the next Paper Mario will be like this game! Please buy this game, you will like it! PLEASE, WE NEED TO SUPPORT THIS, IF WE WANT BETTER PAPER MARIO/ MARIO & LUIGI GAMES!! »

Traumvita 10/10

« Peak gaming experience. Not just one of the best GameCube games of all time but arguably one of the best games of ALL TIME. If you haven’t played this then you’re either broke or misguided. »

« Oh, look. It’s another masterpiece from the era of baggy jeans and dial-up internet that fans refuse to let die. Nintendo finally decided to stop ignoring the screams of the basement-dwelling masses and gave The Thousand-Year Door a fresh coat of paint, but no amount of HD gloss can hide the fact that this game is basically a Glorified Scrapbook Simulator. »
