Gameplay de Night in the Woods

Guardian 100/100

« While slow in patches when it deviates from its core strengths, or occasionally fiddly in its mini-games, the game is buoyed by its dialogue, warm and charming art style, and Holowka’s soundtrack, which keeps even the occasionally clunky platforming from feeling too tedious. »

DarkStation 100/100

« While I can try to find something negative to say about the game it would be absolute nitpicking and at this point, nothing comes to mind. I can certainly say that Night in the Woods’ relatable and lifelike story won’t be for everyone, and I can imagine some finding the characters too whiny or depressing. However, I think the people who enjoy these kinds of stories and characters will be in for one of the best examples of lifelike interactions and relatable storylines in a game to date. Night in the Woods blends beautiful art, a nuanced soundtrack, and expertly crafted, human writing into a single, cohesive experience. »

LEVEL (Czech Republic) 100/100

« Beautifully created adventure game will catch you not only for its visuals, but mainly by the way it observes the problems of young adults. [Issue#273] »

PC PowerPlay 100/100

« A warm, moving tale of alienation and redemption in the era of late stage capitalism. »

RPG Fan 95/100

« I'd been looking forward to Night in the Woods since its announcement and crowdfunding campaign way back in 2013, and I still ended up being surprised at just how much it affected me. It's a bittersweet tribute to slackerdom: a tale of existential crisis and failure, and the odd sense of comfort that failure may result in. Even when your world is crumbling, there's solace in family taco night or the predictable evening talk show hosts, who spout the same catchphrases night after night. We've all had our own personal nights in the woods, but in the words of Possum Springs' welcome sign, "You're not lost, you're here." »

Post Arcade (National Post) 90/100

« What will stick with me long after everything else about Night in the Woods fades away is its main protagonist, Mae. She is such a fully realized character that I felt like I knew her – or, at least, that I’ve known people like her. »

GameSpot 90/100

« Though its charming and angsty story works well on its own merits, it’s special because of how it prioritizes conveying emotion over telling a straight narrative. »

Washington Post 90/100

« Night in the Woods is a reminder of how emotionally tepid most other titles are in comparison. »

afit 10/10

« Beautiful, captivating, funny, sad, cozy, warm, cold, comfort game. Incredible rakt upp och ner mannen. »

Gentoo_97 9/10

« It’s less a game and more an experience about growing up, messing up, and finding your place. Loved the writing and characters — funny, sad, and oddly comforting »

« loved this game, the only thing that could have made it better was a different ending for the different ways you could play - but it makes total thematic sense for there to only be one ending. i enjoyed the mini games and storytelling, and the art was so cute. highly recommend as a cozy-chill game with heart behind it that will leave you emotional »

ejarvis 9/10

« I love this game and gave a 9/10. I just wish it was structured a little different, like sometimes I could only choose one activity or the other and I wish we could do them all. »

Goofywww 8/10

« The game is fun, and explores different themes, howver, it sometimes becomes a walking simulator. »

Mert_52121 10/10

hotmom666 10/10

« Night in the Woods is one of those games that just feels special, it isn’t just a cozy small-town exploration game, it also slowly dips into unsettling, Lovecraftian territory. As Mae, a college dropout, reconnects with her hometown, things start to feel off, with strange occurrences and a growing sense of unease. I spent both times hanging out with Bea. Their relationship felt real to me, there’s this mix of awkwardness and unspoken feelings that makes it hit hard. I didn’t really spend time with Gregg, but Bea’s story was enough to make me feel connected. The soundtrack by Alec Holowka was just the best... The blend of weird, unexplainable events and deep, emotional storytelling gives Night in the Woods a unique, haunting vibe that sticks with you long after you finish it. »
