NHL 2002
NHL 2002, développé par EA Canada et édité par EA Sports, est sorti le 17 septembre 2001 sur PC, PlayStation 2 et Xbox, devenant le premier opus de la série NHL à paraître sur cette dernière console. Ce titre de simulation sportive, successeur de NHL 2001 et prédécesseur de NHL 2003, met en vedette sur sa jaquette Mario Lemieux, alors propriétaire et superstar des Pittsburgh Penguins, de retour sur la glace après trois ans et demi de retraite. Le jeu, protégé par le système SafeDisc 2, a reçu une note moyenne agrégée de 77,91.
La presse a salué la qualité du titre, le magazine Hot Games écrivant qu'il s'agit « simplement du meilleur jeu de hockey jamais sorti », tandis que Gaming Age y voyait « la référence des jeux de hockey sur les plates-formes de nouvelle génération ». Certains joueurs sur Metacritic ont toutefois noté que les rencontres pouvaient afficher des scores peu crédibles, tout en reconnaissant l'intérêt durable du jeu et de ses cartes de collection.

« Another Great hockey game from EA Sports. The engine is similar to that in NHL 2001, with a few improvements. The game added a power-up system in a form of collectable cards. These cards will give boosts to certain star players on your team. Don Taylor from NHL Rock the Rink joins Jim Hughson as a play by play announcer. They went for a more humorous commentary this time. The jokes are hit or miss, but overall the commentary is as good as you would expect. »
« Pretty fun game to play still today but matches end up with ridiculous scores like 8-15 or 4-9. Achievements are kind of fun and cards also. If you are looking for realistic hockey game look somewhere else. »
