NHL 2001
Sorti le 26 septembre 2000 et développé par EA Canada pour EA Sports, NHL 2001 est un jeu de simulation sportive disponible sur PC, PlayStation et PlayStation 2. Le titre propose cinq modes de jeu principaux : exhibition, saison avec rôle de manager général, tournoi et playoffs pour seize équipes chacun, ainsi que le shootout basé sur la séance de tirs au but du hockey international. En dehors des modes saison et playoffs, le joueur peut utiliser dix-huit équipes nationales et quatre équipes d'étoiles. Parmi les ajouts de cette édition figurent des boutons « Big Hit » et « Big Shot », un indicateur de momentum affectant la performance selon la dynamique de la partie, et un mode NHL Challenge récompensant par des points la réalisation de tâches, utilisables pour améliorer des joueurs créés. La presse a salué des graphismes et une intelligence artificielle en progression, Daily Radar évoquant un « momentum meter » renforçant le dramatique et GamePro qualifiant les contrôles et le jeu d'« excellents ». Certains joueurs sur Metacritic regrettent toutefois que le titre soit inférieur à NHL 2002 tout en y voyant un bon jeu de leur enfance, tandis que d'autres citent leur première expérience NHL comme décisive, la version PC leur semblant identique à celle de la PS2. Le jeu affiche un score Metacritic de 90 et une note agrégée de 79,67.

« First NHL game I ever played, and it's still my favourite. The game made me fall in love with hockey. The PC version is the same as its PS2 counterpart. It does suffer from slow-down from time to time. »
