Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, développé par Taleworlds et édité par Prime Matter et Taleworlds, est sorti le 30 mars 2020 sur PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One et Xbox Series X|S. Suite très attendue de Mount & Blade: Warband, ce jeu de rôle et de simulation de combat médiéval se déroule deux cents ans avant son prédécesseur et explore un empire déchiré par la guerre civile, tandis que de nouveaux royaumes s'élèvent au-delà de ses frontières. Le joueur peut créer et développer un personnage, explorer et conquérir un vaste bac à sable médiéval, lever des armées, pratiquer la diplomatie, commercer, forger des armes, recruter des compagnons et gérer ses fiefs. Les batailles se déroulent en temps réel à la première ou troisième personne via un système de combat basé sur les compétences, et un mode multijoueur propose des parties classées ou occasionnelles ainsi que des serveurs dédiés. Classé parmi les genres aventure, simulation, stratégie, RPG et tactique, le titre utilise un moteur interne et affiche un temps de completion de 52 heures pour l'histoire principale et 171 heures pour le profil completionniste, pour un prix de 49,99 euros. La presse a salué un jeu globalement réussi héritant des forces de la série avec des graphismes améliorés, tandis que certains joueurs sur Metacritic louent des batailles fantastiques et une progression de personnage gratifiante, même si d'autres sur Steam regrettent un potentiel gâché et recommandent l'usage de mods. Le score Metacritic s'établit à 77 et la note agrégée à 78,21.

« Overall Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a great game. It’s a case of if it’s not broke, don’t fix it, but it’s been improved on with some beautiful graphics and refining of basic gameplay. TaleWorlds continues to polish it with patches and listen to their community about it. This is hands down one of the best games that let you charge with your cavalry archers while you charge ahead with your lance to end banditry in the area and everything in between. »
« People that play and love Mount & Blade probably don't care as much about politics or the economy. For most, it will be all about being a knight on a horse that matters, and Bannerlord comes through once again. Any shortcomings or features that weren't thought of by the developers will no doubt be modded by fans. In fact, mods are already appearing and that will only add to the longevity of the game. Even though there are still some minor bugs such as an underperforming AI, I still can't recommend Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord enough. Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is a highly addictive game that has me wanting to ride around Calradia upon my trusty steed until I become king of the medieval land. »
