Moons of Madness
Moons of Madness
Description (IGDB)
Moons of Madness throws the player into a unique, first person, psychological horror game, combining Lovecraft influence with hard sci-fi.
Histoire (IGDB)
The message confounded Orochi scientists. Their analysts broke it down and determined it was of intelligent origin. Orochi management immediately concluded that the discovery was too sensitive for public knowledge and moved to keep it hidden. In secret, the corporation began construction of Invictus, a state-of-the-art Mars research outpost designed to identify the true nature of the message. You are Shane Newehart, a technician stationed at the Invictus and your security clearance means you are completely unaware of the existence of the mysterious signal. Your job is simply to keep the lights on until the transport ship Cyrano arrives bringing with it a new team to take over your duties. Soon you discover strange and unusual setbacks. Crucial systems are malfunctioning, the greenhouse is filled with a strange mist and the rest of your team has yet to return from their EVA mission. Things are starting to fall apart.

« Moons of Madness may be the best implementation of traditional puzzle-solving we've seen so far in an interactive narrative experience, in a setting that skillfully merges unearthly horrors with more "tangible" science fiction. »
« Moons of Madness may be light on scares, but the great use of its setting and very strong storytelling make for a compelling narrative-driven experience. »
« Moons of Madness is a wonderfully chilling outing that blends horror and sci-fi to excellent effect, delivering a palpable sense of dread. Most pleasingly, it channels the spirit of H.P. Lovecraft without yelling “CTHULHU!” in your ear every five minutes. »
« Moons of Madness is a great tribute to Lovecraft's works that will immerse you in a dark and terrifying story on the surface of Mars. »
« Moons of Madness is the best of the recent rash of Lovecraft games. It isn’t as dark or atmospheric as some of its macabre competitors, but it’s well-crafted, nicely varied, and builds to a satisfying, pulse-pounding crescendo. If you don’t mind your Lovecraft with a touch of Michael Bay, don’t hesitate to blast off for the Moons of Madness. »
« Inconsistent voice acting aside, Moons of Madness nails the eldritch ambiance and unmitigated madness that its Lovecraftian influence deserves. »
« Moons of Madness ditches the cold New England setting of Lovecraft’s eldritch tales for the dry, arid wastelands of Mars, and what results is a textbook example of how “cosmic” cosmic horror truly can be. »
« Moons of Madness is a solid cosmic horror that knows how to tell a compelling story and promote well designed puzzles. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« For the first time I have to give the game rating in such way: for 6 it’s not enough, for 7 it’s a lot, which means let it be 6.5 - 6.9... I really love Lovecraft's works and his ideas, and therefore I am very sad that there is nothing truly worthwhile from his “Universe” on the game's market. There are games that simply flirt with this, and those that, plus or minus, successfully borrow ideas and atmosphere (for example, brother moons from Dead Space and obelisks are very close to this, or the platformer Salt and Sanctuary hints at this a little with its bosses), but real “creative legacy" I have not seen in any of the games. Only pathetic attempts, many of which are quite old or from indie sector(I like many indie games but a few of them can boast of good quality + Lovecraft theme). This game gave me good hopes, some of which came true. But only part of them. There's good graphics, decent sound during scary scenes, a lot of little moments that could have been great Lovecraftian moments, interesting puzzles and a mystery that is directly related to the universe of the book's author(not just beating around the bush), but the overall picture is bland here. The monsters are strictly pinned to direct places, which kills all fear after the first meeting with danger. The previously mentioned atmosphere dissolves into an all-too-simple-superficial routine. Routine by itself is not a bad thing in a game of this genre, of course not... but even before half the game it gets boring. Even the last level surprises you with its location only for a moment, and immediately after that you remember that you just want to finish the game. It's a shame, but that's how it is. I don't want to say that the game is bad, but I can't call it good either. It's just normal with an average rating between 6 and 7. »
« Well, we got legs, but clumsy consolish movement. Got nice 'manual' animations, but dumb controls and checkpoints. Got some puzzles, but the bugs too... Nevertheless, the Game is worth your time at least cause of the visual quantity, for sure. Gameplay: combat mechanics 2/10 atmosphere [very uneven] 8/10 Gameplay as immersive horror 6/10 Story 8/10 Graphics [good design, bad work] 6/10 Sounds & music [good voice acting, lack of all else] 7/10 . Biopunk cosmic Cthulhu sci-fi conspiracy? YES! »
« The plot, the atmosphere, and the visuals are all great, too bad the developers decided to ruin it by adding crappy puzzles and awful stealth segments. »
« Amazing from start to finish. As a lover of The Secret World, it settles into the lore nicely and keeps that same exact tone and atmosphere. If you haven't played TSW but loved MoM's lore, give it a shot! »
« Looks nice, and the idea to combine Lovecraft and space exploration seemed intriguing. But the realization and all the dream sequences don't really do it many favours. Surprised to see the low rating, it has potential and fans of the genre can definitely find things to enjoy here. »
« So people said there is to much walking and annoying simplistic repeating puzzles. While i had more feeling from the game that puzzles weren't annoying and are quick to solve. And there were different puzzles, at different locations, while there were also dialogues, so it is not like you would have to do repeatedly annoying puzzles just to move on. You were there to do task, it was very quick, while story was evolving at the same time. Except one puzzle was counter-intuitive. Game has amazing graphics and atmosphere. Didn't noticed anything wrong with acting. If you expected master piece like Call of Cthulhu you should look elsewhere, but it is still decent game and fun to play. It doesn't have story deep as Cthulhu. But it is still okay. It is more horror/adventure than about complex story and it does fine in my opinion, tho i expected maybe more monsters, or some scary chase/fight. There is also bug preventing you from finishing the game, not fixed months supposedly. Also this should be probably VR as well, that would ramp up sales massively ! PS: It is pity we don't get better more of an adventures like Call of Cthulhu - old game. Probably because people don't like horrors, or not many studios make them, as they don't sell that well and if they don't do it right, it is problem. »
« Moons of Madness Unenjoyable from start to finish Moons of Madness is a first person adventiure walking simulator that takes place on mars, and basically this is a game about doing spooky chores… All 4 hours of this game is a chore to get through, and they aren’t even interesting chores until an hour in.. aka 25% of the entire game… the game starts with you setting out to fix some solar panels, but youre noticing everything unplugged, who would do such a thing? Until you find out.. oh.. of course aliens… so this becomes a game of being stalked by these creepy creatures and doing puzzles… Moons of madness has glimpses of being enjoyable during these intense chases, or environment based puzzles.. .but those glimpses evaporate as the monotony of this game smacks you over the head… constant button prompts, constant putting in and finding power sources.. constant puzzles, unfun and uninteresting traversal and exploration through these space stations… Moons of madness will drive you mad… Theres really no redeemable quality here… the story is boring and unengaging, the puzzles are annoying progress stoppers more than an enjoyable brain teaser to break the tension.. the environment is **** game starts out slow, it drags with glimpse of potential, and none of this potential is ever realized… I give Moons of Madness a 4.5/10 »
« This game looks pretty but unfortunately it is just a boring walking simulator with lots of button pressing and annoying puzzles. The story is tediously boring and the horror part was just jump scares after jump scares which made this game feel like a boring movie.Voice acting was good but sadly i can't suggest this game since it is so dull »
