Maximum Pool, développé par Dynamix, Inc. et édité par Sierra On-Line, est sorti le 6 septembre 2000 sur PC (Microsoft Windows) et Dreamcast. Classé dans les genres sport et stratégie, le jeu propose sept jeux de billard classiques dotés d'une physique super-précise et d'adversaires captés en vidéo, ainsi qu'un mode de jeu en ligne. Il permet de débloquer cinq jeux bonus en battant un adversaire difficile ou en rejoignant une partie en ligne.
Concernant l'accueil critique, le magazine Antagonist a partagé un avis mitigé, estimant que le titre est « Simplistic, annoying, and suffers from quirky controls and poor audio », tout en précisant qu'il reste « a hell of a lot of fun to play ». De son côté, la rédaction de Dreamcast HQ a salué la composante multijoueur, affirmant que « And the best part about Maximum Pool? ONLINE baby! Online play supports all games in Maximum Pool, both traditional and "maximum" hidden games. »
