Cabooses, Map UI & Optimization

Hello everyone! Today, we've got a couple more development vlogs for you, featuring some new stuff the team has been working on!First up, a new Flag Stop that features a new piece of rolling stock! Long-time followers may have heard us jokingly refer to how 3' narrow gauge railroad cabooses are rarely ever... normal. Thankfully, the East Broad Top Railroad bucked that trend and made a normal caboose and we're happy to have it included in Century of Steam!Next up, we have our map UI as well as game optimization! Two important things that the team has been hard at work on over the last few months. In this vlog, we detail our stylistic approach to the design of the map UI, what they will display and more. Additionally, there has been performance optimization, which has been something we've been hard at work on improving over the past few months, resulting in the game's average FPS increasing by up to 63% compared to before our latest round of optimization efforts, with still more to come in that regard!Furthermore, on our Patreon, we just published a new Flag Stop on our Patreon, that details the research and modeling efforts that have been going into a very Grande 2-8-2 mikado! As always, our dev vlogs go live to Patreon one month before they go out to YouTube, so if you like the work we're doing and would like to support our efforts in getting this game made, your patronage is greatly appreciated.- Studio 346

Mid-Year Updates - What We've Been Doing!

Hello everyone! Today, we come bearing a ton of development vlogs, featuring stuff that the team has been hard at work on, over the past few months.First up, we have one of our short-form Flag Stop videos, showcasing a new locomotive coming to Century of Steam, the GE Class C-C 162/162-6GHM842 800HP (rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?), built for the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. These interesting-looking oddballs have quite the storied history on the WP&Y from the mid 1950's on to present day and many similar GE-built "Shovel Nose" diesels can be found in many other countries around the world, such as Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Thailand!Next up, we have our second full installment in our in-progress Industries vlog series, Industries Part 2, which showcases a new kind of locomotive for us, a Baldwin 6-16 1/3C "Steam Motor", also known as a "Steam Dummy", on logging duty deep in the mountains of Ponderosa. This vlog showcases more of our industry UI, engine facility UI, cargo transfers, cargo damage, payout modifiers, commodities moving between multiple industries and more.Next up is a Flag Stop that showcases a new and rather exciting class of locomotive, from a legendary coal-hauling railroad out east. From the Baldwin Locomotive Works comes the 12-32 1/4E Drawing 5 - East Broad Top Railroad & Coal Company's #14 and #15. These are some seriously heavy-hitting engines, with tall drivers and lots of power and we're certain that they'll be a common sight on your railroads in the future.A train without freight isn't much fun and in this Flag Stop, we showcase equipment that'll be featured quite commonly as special loads for mines and the history behind them. From a tiny Baldwin 0-4-0, to the minecarts it hauled, the industries themselves and more. These were things that worked out of sight, out of mind and much of this flavor of railroading is lost to the history books - but we're nothing if not thorough in what we want to represent in Century of Steam.Next up, a Q&A Video, responding to questions that our Patrons have asked us. What's the gameplay loop like? How will interchanges work? All good questions, all answered in the video. And finally, to wrap up this round of updates, a new and interesting piece of rolling stock! The Swayne Lumber Company's heavy-duty 38-foot "connected-truck" logging cars, that later found their way to the famed West Side Lumber Company. Sturdy, large and high-capacity, these cars will be mainstays wherever lumber is to be found.Furthermore, on our Patreon, we've just published a new dev vlog that talks about the game map systems we'll be bringing to Century of Steam, as well as new rolling stock sounds, the move from Unreal Engine 5.4 to 5.7 and a ton of performance optimizations. As always, our dev vlogs go live to Patreon one month before they go out to Youtube, so if you like the work we're doing and would like to support our efforts in getting this game made, your patronage is greatly appreciated.- Studio 346

2025 Christmas Updates!

Hello all, we hope you all are enjoying this holiday season! We've got some additional work done over the winter break, with Industries Part 1 coming to the Patreon this week to close out the year. Much of the team is currently spending time with family and friends today, but we wanted to drop these here as a little christmas gift for y'all: Firstly, our flagstop video on our 1913 Ford Model T inspection car from the Rio Grande Southern Railroad is now public! We are joined by researcher Brett, who shares his experience restoring and driving a Ford Model TT truck and how he was able to contribute to making this neat little piece of railroading history come to life! Additionally, 3D artist Alec shares his research and work in recreating one of the most ubiquitous pieces of logging equipment on the narrow gauge, the Russel Car & Foundry skeleton cars! And lastly, here is a bluegrassy christmas carol to enter your holiday music rotations! The timeless piece Greensleeves dates all the way back to the 1500s, but was adapted into the carol "What Child is This" in 1871, so it's technically in era! We hope you enjoy this rendition of Greg Booth's arrangement of the tune for Dobro, Fiddle, and Upright Bass, with more festive tunes to come as part of our house band Burnahm & Run's winter setlist!May you all find peace, comfort and joy to close out this year, and we'll see you all again in 2026 with a huge industry and commodities update!--Studio 346
