Banished, développé et publié par Shining Rock Software, est sorti le 18 février 2014 sur PC (Microsoft Windows). Ce jeu de simulation, de stratégie et de type RTS indépendant place le joueur aux commandes d'un groupe de voyageurs exilés qui entreprennent de rebâtir leur vie dans une terre inconnue avec pour seuls biens leurs vêtements et une charrette de vivres. L'objectif consiste à maintenir la population en vie et à la faire prospérer, par le biais de la chasse, de la cueillette, de l'agriculture, de la pêche ou du commerce, tout en adoptant des pratiques durables. Les habitants constituent la ressource première : ils naissent, vieillissent, travaillent, fondent des familles et meurent, et leur santé, leur moral et leur nourriture conditionnent la croissance de la cité. Le titre ne propose ni arbre de compétences ni monnaie, permettant la construction libre de toute structure dès lors que les ressources sont réunies, et les marchands de passage troquent contre vos biens bétail et cultures annuelles au risque d'importer des maladies. Vingt métiers sont disponibles, et la gestion des risques et des ressources détermine la réussite ou l'échec de la ville. D'une durée de quinze heures pour l'histoire principale et de près de quatre-vingt-dix heures pour un parcours complet, il est proposé au prix de 18,99 euros et affiche un score Metacritic de 73. La presse a salué son défi exigeant, Game Revolution notant qu'il comble les amateurs de dieux de la gestion déçus par des titres récents, tandis que Hooked Gamers évoque une récompense pour qui s'investit, peut-être au prix d'un certain masochisme. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic expriment en revanche un ennui à long terme et déplorent l'absence d'histoire ou une ambiance visuelle faible, quand d'autres sur Steam qualifient le jeu de très bon ou de trop bien.
