Le titre est proposé sur PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable et appareils mobiles d'ancienne génération. Cette itération entend porter le divertissement sportif au niveau supérieur en offrant aux joueurs un contrôle accru de leur catcheur, notamment grâce à des entrées et des scènes de victoire interactives.
Du côté de la presse spécialisée, l'accueil est globalement favorable, reflété par une note agrégée de 67,81. Le site AceGamez le qualifie de « meilleur jeu de catch sorti depuis des années et facilement le meilleur disponible sur console pour le moment », tandis que 1UP estime qu'il s'agit de l'année idéale pour les détracteurs de la série de « remonter sur le ring » grâce à ses nouvelles additions.
L'avis des joueurs apparaît en revanche plus contrasté. Si certains jugent l'expérience similaire à l'opus 2008 avec un « bon gameplay » et un mode histoire amélioré, ils regrettent l'absence du mode General Manager, estimant que le titre « manque de relatabilité » par rapport aux épisodes 7 et 8. D'autres voix sont bien plus sévères, le décrivant comme « peut-être le pire jeu WWE jamais fait », critiquant un système de combat défaillant, un mode Road to WrestleMania jugé « nul » et un contenu global « très pauvre en modes de jeu ».
