Description (IGDB)

UFO: Extraterrestrials is a Microsoft Windows game aimed to be a spiritual sequel to the highly acclaimed UFO: Enemy Unknown (retitled X-COM: UFO Defense in North America). Developed by Chaos Concept, the game incorporates a twist of the aliens defeating the humans on Earth. The game takes place on a human-colonized planet named Esperanza, where the alien threat has just arrived.

Histoire (IGDB)

Planet Esperanza - colonized by spaceship Magaleansh in 2020. Many years have passed since the first colonists arrived Esperanza. Through hard work and determination, they gradually setup base on their adopted planet. Over time, leaders emerged, a government was formed, commerce flourished and the pilgrims from Earth eventually made the planet of the three suns their home. But recently, a deep space monitor registered a strong and mysterious reading. Esperanza's scientists scrambled to investigate the disturbance and made an alarming discovery - a wormhole had opened close to their planet. And even more disturbing, something had come through... was headed directly toward them. Concerns of an alien invasion abounded. In response, the United Government of Esperanza decided to send two recon ships, Lewis and Clark, to ascertain the truth. After two weeks time, the recon ships arrived the location of the mysterious reading... and, as feared, discovered an alien vessel. But apparently the ship had somehow failed while en route Esperanza. It had crash landed on to a small planet in the system. The crews of Lewis and Clark landed on the surface, explored the crash site and recovered an alien computer and a chamber full of hibernated aliens. Upon returning home, an analysis of the computer and of the aliens took place at The Esperanza Security Center. What the military scientists discovered was terrible news. Earth had been invaded and subjugated by alien hordes. They had plundered the planet's terrestrial resources and enslaved the humans. Immediately an emergency council was called to decide what to do. The council quickly determined that the fate that had befallen Earth could befall them. They vowed to be ready if the aliens decided to invade. To defend against the aliens, Esperanza gathered the planet's best scientists, engineers, and soldiers and formed them into a single unit - the Counter Alien Force (CAF). And it is on the shoulders of that force that the very survival of the human race now rests.

Ce jeu est captivant mais trop lassant parfois, la gestion des labos ne se fait que sur la base principale ce qui est dommage car on ne peut pas la protéger correctement par des défenses adéquates par manque de place. les soldats peuvent réussir u...

Sympa !

AceGamez 100/100

« If you have even the slightest interest in strategy games, and if you ever played the X-Com games, then just buy it - you will not regret it. And if you never played any of the X-Com titles then do yourself a favour and snap them up too! »

Pelit (Finland) 88/100

« The true heir of the classic X-COM and almost as addictive. However, the game has a multitude of irritating design flaws that need correcting. [June 2007] »

GamePro 85/100

« UFO: Extraterrestrials has largely managed to capture the elements that made X-COM such a classic and iconic game. Almost nothing about the game can labeled as innovative or revolutionary, but it is such a well packaged refinement of a proven formula that it is hard to complain. »

Gamers Europe 85/100

« UFO isn’t perfect, but it does breathe enough life into a genre that hasn’t seen enough action recently. You could do a lot worse. »

Jolt Online Gaming UK 78/100

« The game is a real mixed bag of action and strategy that, while not quite recreating the magic of X-COM, gives a pretty good showing of itself. »

GameWatcher 72/100

« Overall the game is well done and will be very much enjoyed by fans of the classic X:COM games and anyone who enjoys tactical combats. »

PC Zone UK 71/100

« It's fun, tough, cheap and really hard to stop playing; sometimes it's good to look back. [Oct 2007, p.86] »

PC Gamer 70/100

« Given UFO:ET's $39.99 price tag, it's hard to recommend over the $5 copy of "X-COM: Terror from the Deep" on Steam, unless you're really itching for a minor graphical upgrade. [Aug 2007, p.68] »

« This is a short review for the gold **** gold version contains some mods and all patches when you buy it, so my review might not apply to the base game! There is nothing special to say, you know the genre, you know how the game works. This game is a remake of the original X-Com and stays close to the course material.I know the game had issues when they released it, i had no bugs at all!THe gameplay is old-school, keep that in mind! Visuals:The game is not a beauty, but it fullfills it purpose. Sound:Some good backroundmusic, weaponsounds are ok, nothing special here. Gameplay:Like i said, very **** takes X-Com and adds some features, most of them work very well.A good example is the resistance type that armor and enemys have. Some are immune to fire or poison, others are weak to that damagetype and so on.That adds some tactical depth i think. Conclusion:I had so much fun with the game.Much more fun when i compare it to the new x-com or **** reason is that this game takes the best parts and adds something new, something that i missed in **** artstyle is nice for my taste.Without the bugs this game comes close to the first X-Com and maybe is better in some **** some things are clunky, because of that its only a 7 which is much higher than my score for Xenonauts ;) »

« I am reviewing this game using the UNI Mod which I think made this game the legitimate successor of the original XCOM. I have heard tha vanilla was not good but the one I purchase was the steam version using BT mod. It was okay at first and I would rate it as a 7 but it made the game for me TOO EASY. So I have research and some recommended the UNIMOD for advance players and I have not looked back. I even restarted my game and I love every piece of the UNIMOD for this game. This game thus elevates itself as one of my all time favorites. »

LeSaviorNoah 10/10

« I agree with the guy that gave it a 100... Easily... If you haven't played an X-COM game, I don't see how you couldn't enjoy this for the amzing strategy/rpg game that it is... If you have played X-COMs, then you would have to be compelled to say that his is by far one of the most challenging, yet fun one in the series! »

« Note - This review is for the GOLD edition only. When UFO first cam eout almost 4 years ok it was "ok". I bought it from Gamersgate and played it a bit, though probably no more than an afternoon. I would have given it a 6 at the times, though looking back 1 of those points might have been for the nostalgia of the game it tries to emulate (X-Com) What the Gold edition offers is just about every improvement that the community asked for with the original. Better ranged combat, better AI, better UI, tweaked graphics, moddability (some hard coded into the game - you want turn based or real time combat? It's an option. You want immortal, mortal or VERY mortal troops, select them) In fact it turns out that the developers took the contents of the top community mods and (shamelessly but quite understandably) hard coded them into the game along with the existing bug fix and improvement patches (of which there were either 2,3 or 4 depending on how you bought your original game) The result is a FAR better game. The graphics will still disappoint some (though they are much better than the original X-Coms form 17 years ago) and the first really good tribute to the Microprose/Gollop brothers legacy. I will add that if you have no money what-so-ever then UFO Alien Invasion is an option. It is not as good as this, but for free it's not too bad at all. nyway, the original release was worth 5 or 6, this one is worth a solid 9 for fans of the game. »
