Sorti le 4 octobre 2013 sur PC, Train Simulator 2014 est une simulation ferroviaire développée et éditée par RailSimulator.com Ltd. Le titre propose de prendre les commandes de locomotives variées sur des tracés réputés, mettant en avant l'exaltation de la vitesse, des graphismes soignés et des missions exigeantes. Trois itinéraires principaux sont inclus dès la base : la ligne à grande vitesse London-Faversham High Speed avec la gare de London St Pancras et l'automotrice Class 395, le col montagneux de Donner Pass aux États-Unis pour du trafic de fret lourd tracté par une Dash 9, ainsi que la liaison allemande Hambourg-Hanovre parcourue par un ICE 2 à travers la campagne.
Le jeu structure l'expérience autour de quatre piliers : une carrière de conducteur, l'exploration d'un large parc de matériel roulant sur des lignes emblématiques, un éditeur permettant de créer et partager ses propres parcours, et la possibilité d'étoffer sa collection via des contenus additionnels. Du côté de l'accueil, la presse spécialisée a relevé l'apport de nouvelles fonctionnalités et améliorations profitant tant aux néophytes qu'aux vétérans de la série, tout en notant que le genre reste confidentiel. En revanche, une partie des joueurs a exprimé une forte déception, qualifiant l'opus de simple copier-coller des versions antérieures avec des changements minimes d'interface, des graphismes et un moteur jugés obsolètes, ainsi qu'un suivi par correctifs quasi inexistant.

« Absolute copy and paste of the same game from previous years with minimal changes to the menu ui and other uis. Graphics and engine are STILL as bad as they were in 2007. A game destroyed by the same absolute stupid idea EA had when approaching the FIFA series. The amount of DLC for this game is extortion to describe in one word. 600 dlcs (most of which underdone and rushed just to force you to spend MORE money buying 3rd party dlc that fixes some of what Dovetail couldn't be bothered to put effort in) most dlcs of which amount 10-19+ pounds, which will get you the special grand total of around 8000 or so pounds excluding the third party DLC. Absolutely sick. »
« Used to be an actually decent simulator for people who enjoyed this sort of thing (as I used to), but it was just so bad, buggy and rarely ever updated in the new iterations of the game that it's not even worth installing anymore. I feel like this sim killed my passion for something I used to enjoy. Time to move on. »
« First of all if you search a real Simulator, you are complettle wrong with this game, its only a dumped down arcade game for kiddies and mid 40 guys who think the can drive trains.... The only + are probably the graphics but even they are very poor at some parts(NY-NH partly only 1 fps). The feeling of driving a train dosent exist. Its like driving a car even heavy us freights. They wasnt even able to find out the correct weight of freight cars and some engines. Also have the SD40-2 more power than Gevo´s seriously a 3500 HP engine can pull more than a 4400 HS ****/DTG are you joking.... Fixing of bugs is also no intention of RSC/DTG. In new dlc are sometimes some things fixed but you can say for every fixed one you get 2 new bugs. »

« Basically the same game like 2012 and 2013 version of the game. Sadly, the game still has enormous amounts of bugs and glitches that the developer of the game dont give a **** about. Instead, they keep pushing out new DLCs all the time and not improving existing trains or the game itself. The costs to buy new DLCs is very high (13,99 EURO) for a train and even more for maps. Addons are often half-made and very buggy and is sometimes broken. Even though DLCs are very expensive, their quality, especially train sound is very bad and you can hear some sounds looping and do not sound realistic. When an AI train passes you, the sound suddenly starts from nowhere and dissapers, without fading. Further on, Train Simulator features an editor that makes it possible for a player to make your own scenarios, but it do ALWAYS crash and all the work goes by by. I will not recommend this game to anyone because all the bugs and the terrible physics and sounds makes this game very boring to play, BUT if the developer starts to fix bugs and starts to push out proper updates, then this game may have potential. »
« A good simulator both for new and seasoned players of train sim. Could have more work done to it and also for the price get more trains/maps. Or make the DLC maps and trains slightly cheaper. But overall a good fun simulator. »
