Toki
Toki

« The return of a classic game that used to "eat" our coins like crazy back in the late 80's. This new edition of Toki retains all the charm of the original as well as its difficulty. The new art makes it fresh and playable again, but the lack of any kind of extra content left us wanting more. »
« Toki is fun and wacky, but a flawed game in many regards. While I enjoy the world and basic gameplay elements there are cheap deaths and the new graphics can make it hard to tell what’s on the same plane as the character at times. The different difficulty settings allow players to tailor the experience, which is good, but I don’t see myself often trying something other than Easy since this is an updated arcade title. Some of the general flaws can be attributed to the original game, so the developers actually did nail it when they made this updated version. That said, Toki fans will get a kick out of this remaster and if you like weird, old arcade games you probably will, too. »
« Although the lack of extra content and option is alarming, Toki still is a great game, and the new visuals make it more enjoyable than ever. »
« Toki is a visually successful remaster of a game dear to a lot of quite old gamers. It hasn't changed a lot, which can be good for arcade enthusiasts but frustrating for those who are not receptive to the proposition, and offers nothing more but it's fine. »
« A beautiful remaster of the original Toki, with the same great elements and flaws of the 1989 arcade. Short, difficult and fun. We love the retro-collector edition, which includes a wooden cabinet replica. »
« Interesting remake of one of the most iconic 2D run and gun classic arcade games from the 90s era. »
« One of the toughest platform-shooter ever made, graphically renewed with a beautiful cartoon style. Can be frustrating for those who prefers a more relaxing challenge. »
« On the whole, I found Toki to be much more playable and enjoyable than I had initially expected. The gorgeous new art direction and classic level design suits its resurgent makeover to stay fun even after nearly 30 years. However, pushing this remaster out the door with no original arcade addition as well as reflect on its steep price point does make a purchase harder to recommend. With that said, if Toki does find its way into a Nintendo eShop sale it’s definitely worth diving into. There’s a reason why it has a cult following and after playing through it twice it’s easy to see why. »

« Great improvement since 1989, but I feel it a little off, as console game is easier, a thing I feel correct because the original game was pretty difficult for me, I don't like too much the graphics, they are animated at a low frame rate, and they want to be too much humorous, original game wasn't so humorous. The music is a little simple. »
« Sure, the hand drawn graphics look nice and the music is pleasant. The controls are tight enough too, but the level design and boss fights have not aged well at all here and you will also suffer a number of very cheap and frustrating deaths. I've finished this game twice now and I'm never likely to play it again. I kind of enjoyed my little nostalgic revisit of modernised Toki, but it was a pretty short trip at only about 20-30 minutes each play through. It is a shame the original arcade version was not included as part of the package. »
« I even regret that 0,87 € I spend on it. It's too punishing. You will lose all progress when you run out of lifes. Yet the game itself isn't joy-able enough to grind. It doesn't tell you what the different difficulty setups do (you start with less lives: 9 on easy, 2 on most difficult). The only upsides are, decent controls, nice sound-effects and "likable" visuals, even tho I think the "hero" looks unnecessarily derpy. The music is borderline okay, I guess. There are so much more enjoyable games ou there, don't waste your time on it. Can't recommend it. »
« A previously decent game is made worse in this remaster. It's as bare-bones as they come: the only option to speak of is difficulty adjustment. No saving, no graphical options, nothing. The 'amazing new graphics' dispense with the charm of the old pixel art, and, because of alterations to both the animations and aspect ratio, change the way the whole game plays. That alone is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's clear nothing was re-balanced in this change, creating more than a few frustrating and unfair moments (on top of the built-in frustration of it's original arcade design). Not worth $30 in any universe, maaaaybe worth $6, if you were a fan back in the day. But even then, just about every other version is better. »
« It's a short arcade game with stunning HD visuals and presentation. Sadly there's no additional content (extras, save states, original graphics option, etc) for this remaster, but only the arcade experience in different difficulty levels. It's a nice game you'll love if you liked the original and the amazing physical edition with a wooden arcade cabinet for the switch is certainly a welcome addition. »
« Better than the original ? May be less difficult if you play as a novice but still thrilling.. Graphics are terrific and the music is just perfect ! I love the collector version and the cabinet is a great idea ! »
« TOKI remake is a game that you love, or hate. Like the original. The1989's game had its problems: a general slowness in the movements of the ape, with a difficulty not-so-well balanced. The Microids release shows love to the original, preserving merits and defects. The new visuals are excellent, you feel to "play a cartoon". It's simple: If you loved the old TOKI, probably you'll love the new TOKI. For me, it deserves an "8/10". P.S. I bought the (Retro)Collector Edition, easily one of the best collections seen around. Stickers, comic, small wooden case, and the game cartridge, for 40,00€ circa. That's a great value. The digital delivery version ISN'T so great, so... I advise you to put money on retail. »
« Эта игра очень скушная и неинтересная 1 »
