One dedicated fan remakes Sonic the Hedgehog's weirdest game for PC, and it's my childhood dream come true

Everyone has a favorite Sonic the Hedgehog game. For me, it's Sonic Heroes, closely followed by Shadow the Hedgehog. If you're a more recent fan, Shadow Generations is a solid pick. One game that never really makes it onto anyone's 'top ten Sonic games' list, however, is Sonic and the Black Knight, a bizarre, medieval-set Wii exclusive that cast the Blue Blur as a mighty hero bound to defeat the titular evildoer. It is, however, one of my favorites, and a new mod is bringing it to PC. The trailer even has Knight of the Wind, and honestly, I think I might actually be crying. That or I'm sweating because I'm too excited. TMI either way. Read the rest of the story... Sonic Rumble system requirements

Sonic the Hedgehog is a beloved franchise that has survived the test of time, and the latest Sonic Rumble system requirements point towards an incredibly accessible game that will run on just about any entry-level PC or laptop, even one that's a decade old. This online co-op version of Sonic puts us in mind of Fall Guys with a SEGA twist and, as can be expected, barely demands anything from your gaming laptop or PC. In fact, you won't need anything nearly as powerful as the best graphics card on our buying guide to get Sonic Rumble running at its very best. You won't even need a high-powered processor, as hardware from 2012 is enough to get this contender for best battle royale games running. Read the rest of the story... Mere months after Sonic the Hedgehog 3's release, we already have an exact date for its sequel

I haven't been able to stop thinking about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 since I saw it in the cinema last month. The first two movies were good, sure, but the third movie's treasure trove of Sonic Adventure 2 references—and the introduction of Keanu Reeves as Shadow, my favourite character—has cemented it as my favourite of the trilogy... « I can't find the version i played to review. I played the SEGA ages port to the switch 2. I really enjoyed so much of this game. It has such a distinct aesthetic, charm and vibe with a decent soundtrack and beautiful to this day visuals. I love 2D scrollers and this is a big enough difference to mario that it feels both familiar and fresh and new. So why so low for such high praise? Well. This has some really, really REALLY awful level design. So you got this character who likes to run fast right? thats like his main thing? I got it! lets make precise slow snail pace jumping sections! lets make the end half of the game underwater where he can drown which makes exploration unnatractive and you constantly have to stop and get air! genius! the level design is pretty consistently awful, despite some really fun gameplay mechanics and such a strong artistic vision. also really good simple boss battles! im excited for the sequel, hope it has better levels and more polish. **** THE WATER LEVELS. »

« Amo sonic em 2D. Ja joguei todos eles do Mega, Master, GBA e o CD. »

« A great start to the Sonic franchise, it has good graphics, a good soundtrack, but the stages after Green Hill have a lot of obstacles that hinder the game's speed proposal, however it is a very fun game and started the franchise very well (in addition to being the game responsible for rivaling the Sega Genesis with Nintendo's monopoly). »

xakurdle 8/10

« Few games have made as strong a first impression as Sonic the Hedgehog. It introduced players to a faster, more momentum-driven style of platforming that set it apart from its contemporaries. What's most impressive—and often underrated—about Sonic the Hedgehog is the physics system Sonic Team developed specifically for the game. At a time when platformers largely relied on rigid, grid-based movement, Sonic introduced a sense of momentum and flow that felt completely unique. The level design, inspired by roller coasters and skateparks, encourages players to use slopes, loops, and ramps to build speed naturally, making movement feel intuitive and rewarding. However, not all levels take full advantage of this design philosophy. While zones like Green Hill and Starlight allow for fast, fluid gameplay, others, like Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone, slow the pace significantly with blocky platforming and water sections that can feel at odds with Sonic’s core mechanics. Revisiting Sonic 1 after Sonic Mania highlights some of its more dated aspects—the speed cap, the lack of a spindash, and the limitations of the 4:3 resolution. Yet, despite these shortcomings, the game holds up remarkably well. Each zone has its own distinct visual identity, with vibrant pixel art and creative environments that make every stage feel unique. The soundtrack is another highlight, with catchy, memorable tunes that perfectly complement the game’s energy and atmosphere. Though later 3D entries moved away from this style of gameplay, the original still stands as a testament to what made the series special in the first place. Even with its flaws, it remains a fun, well-designed platformer that’s worth revisiting. »
