Shogi , also known as Japanese chess, is an abstract strategy board game for two players. It is one of the most popular board games in Japan and is in the same family of games as Western chess, chaturanga, xiangqi, Indian chess, makruk, and janggi. Shōgi means general's board game. The term shōgi is most commonly used to describe hon-shōgi, a term used to distinguish the most popular form of the game from other forms like ko-shogi, modern shogi variants, and related games.
