Savage Skies

28 mars 2002

Hot Games 80/100

« It doesn't damage the reputation of fantasy games, but it doesn't make any spectacular leaps and bounds with it. »

Armchair Empire 80/100

« A really interesting game that some people will think is great, while others will harp on the shortcomings. Personally, I really enjoyed the title and will keep the game in my rotation until I defeat all of those missions completely with all bonuses. »

GamePen 70/100

« The gameplay is strong, and entertaining. »

GamePro 70/100

« Savage Skies finds a way to creep up your spine...and proves that a little diversity goes a long way. »

GameZone 65/100

« Unfortunately, sometimes less than average graphics overall + bad sound + two faction’s missions being too difficult = probably skipped over in the retail game store. »

Electric Playground 65/100

« Savage Skies isn't going to change your life, it isn't going to have you thinking about it for hours and hours when you are away from it, and it will grow a little tiresome after a relatively short time, but it will entertain you, especially if you've ever had any metal or fantasy leanings. »

Official U.S. Playstation Magazine 60/100

« I realized five or six hours into it that I was really hooked...There are plenty of hours of gameplay to be had. [May 2002, p.102] »

Media and Games Online Network 60/100

« The overall gameplay of Savage Skies is a mixed bag of good and just plain awful. »

« Finally an almost new game style idea. The last game that simulated flying on a dragon, that I remember, was Dragonstrike on DOS 1990. Graphically this games looks like the very first generation of PS2 games, so even for 2002 when it came out in north america it is mediore. The animation is not the best, there are some clipping issues and the resolution looks like PS1. But it is fun to fly around on dragons, giant eagles and winged monsters. The variety of flying animals is great, the different weapon styles and the different mission styles lead to an very entertaining experience. The biggest issue for me is, that it is too short, as there are only 9 mission for each of the three camps, especially becaus only the first camp is easy enough to enjoy. I like the trashy cut scenes, the rock soundtrack and the fact, that the flying riding animals don't steer like planes, but have their own style. A pity they didn't balance the difficulty better with the second and third part of the missions. »

« Savage Skies was a air combat game that was really creative but needed help on graphics, story, and probably needed a budget. Was a fun game growing up but the cut-scenes still make me cringe even with my nostalgia goggles on. »
