Status Update on Final Patch
Hi all, long time no see!RecapIt has truly been a long time, so it's worth to recall where we've stopped. After the 1.4.5 patch back in September ’24 I promised to release the Final Update after a short rest. But frankly I was burned out after working on Regiments almost non-stop since 2016, so the hiatus went much-much longer. I had to figure out things going forward, and try out some ideas for the next project. While I'm mainly focused on said next project, it felt wrong to not give Regiments a proper send-off. After some deliberation, I've decided to focus on the promised final update.Better late than never, right?Planned ContentThis is what can definitely be expected:Several new units. Some will patch up the gaps in the existing rosters - like the BTR-D line of vehicles for VDV forces, - while others are more 'flavour' additions like the Polish Hibernyt. At least one new regimentSteam AchievementsMale announcer voice as an optionSmarter retreat logic for both transport and combat helicopter groupsMechanized infantry that have lost their transport may now reinforce the surviving squads in their platoonA wealth of balance adjustments and fixes based on the feedback received since the last patchScheduleI'm currently aiming for mid-April (but you know how these things may go).Next ProjectThere are probably a lot of questions, but the project is still in very early stages of development and it's not possible to talk much about it. It's not Regiments 2, but still tangentially related and will feature a lot of familiar hardware. That's all for now!
Avis des critiques et joueurs
Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« Regiments puts some interesting spins on the Cold War RTS formula, but its sustainability and longevity are hampered by the lack of MP and multiplayer. »
« Dynamic, very thrilling battles in the fateful year 1989. Adequate learning curve, also suitable for beginners. »
« Regiments, a real-time tactics game almost completely free of micromanagement and focused on combat, is worth checking out if you’re a fan of World in Conflict or Wargame by Eugen Systems. It fails to bring anything new to the genre, but is overall a solid offering. »
« Regiments may give you the opportunity to try yourself out as a combined arms commander, but it doesn’t go the extra mile to flesh out the experience to the fullest. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« I haven't played many RTS games before this one, and I wasn't any good at the few ones that I actually played. So it should speak volumes when I say; I didn't have many problems when I first started out on playing this game. Pretty easy to get in to, not too hard to master as well. So if you have doubts that it will be too complex for you, I wouldn't be too concerned. The game has a decent amount of content to offer including 9 progressive operations (3 of them takes place in the same environment but the remaining 6 require you to progress trough varying amount of stages) that allow you to take command of a regiments and complete tasks that are given to you depending on the story's requirements( yes there is a story eventough it's pretty basic.) During these operations you will have to: Manage casualties set up defences (If required) and recruit new task forces depending on your playstyle. Like I said before this whole system is easy to pick up on, just like the rest of the game.Operations that I have talked about are the ''meat and potatoes'' of the game and the section where I had the most fun. And apart from that we have the next gamemode: ''Skirmish'' which is a gamemode where you pick a regiment out of 30 available (13 warsaw pact 17 NATO) and either attack or defend in one of the 23 maps the game has to offer. Pretty straightforward. That last sentence is a basic summary of the game really. It even has a demo on the steampage so that you won't be limited to 2 hours in order to get a feel for the game. So if you have money to spare and if you are interested in a ''Cold War Gone Hot'' scneario in the late 80s it can't hurt to buy this game. I don't write many reviews, so if the language is hard to understand I apologize »
« while only a single player game (might change with later updates) this game is a really solid and realistic RTS war simulator, with a brutal AI that punishes you for small mistakes and forces you to be careful and preserve your troops since a that gain XP and level for accuracy and faster shooting ( so no going all out) while at it no AI does mot cheat or spawn troops out of air, they use really good tactics and ways to flank you so it is a fair game that depends on your skill and calmness, and since it does not need micro management like some other games it can be pretty easy to learn for new people that get into RTS the graphics are perfect with rally detailed maps, sounds are done well (except so radio sounds that can be annoying) the game play is smooth and i saw no frame dips, and the campaign is long and diverse that can keep you interested with different scenarios. while the single player only aspect hurts the game to some aspect it is a solid RST game. »
« A rock solid, chock full Cold War crisis RTS that's instantly accessible and worthier than it's competition for the ageing single player mil-sim strategist. Actual Tactics without the crazy clickfest, no spambot cheating AI, persistent damage battlefields across multi-phase operations in the campaign(only other RTS with this feature set was Close Combat series as I recall), great graphics especially lighting and explosion effects, lovingly detailed unit models right down to the gas masks on the G.I . Sound and music are also top notch and the single best feature? The Pause Button (in addition to time slow options Makes it actually playable and far less frustrating than the Wargame series). Persistent Operations campaign mode is so well though out and engaging, can't wait for expansions for it. Also nice bit of added touch by adding a jaded CIA field agent's notes and memoirs to the briefings, adds to the world building. Highly recommended for the price and it is a AA+ effort from a very small dev team. »
« Very nice RTS set in late 80s which actually allows you to act like the commander rather than click spamming the latest winning Meta. Got me hooked from the get go on the operations / campaign. There’s still plenty of diversity in the game and it has a great mix of winning elements from other successful RTS games combined with some genuine innovations. Strong word in conflict vibes but somehow also reminds me of the close combat series. Really hope they keep developing on this platform and add more content because this is an absolute winner. »
