Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, onzième opus de la série développé et publié par Konami avec l'assistance de la Blue Sky Team, est sorti le 27 septembre 2011 sur PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 et PC. Classé dans les genres simulation et sport, le jeu intègre la protection DRM SecuROM et affiche un score Metacritic de 77 pour une note agrégée de 74,51. Pour cette édition, Cristiano Ronaldo, déjà présent sur la jaquette de PES 2008, remplace Lionel Messi en tant que star de couverture, ce dernier ayant occupé ce rôle depuis PES 2009, tandis que Shinji Kagawa prend sa place sur la version japonaise et que Neymar et Cristiano Ronaldo figurent sur les couvertures américaine et latino-américaine. La presse a salué la qualité du jeu sur le terrain, le site Level7.nu jugeant qu'il s'agit du meilleur PES sur le terrain tout en regrettant le manque d'ambition de Konami sur les modes de jeu, tandis que Game Informer note que le titre ne changera l'avis de personne sur la série sans perdre pour autant son éclat. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic expriment leur enthousiasme face à un jeu qualifié d'incroyable et de visuellement détaillé, quand d'autres soulignent une formule répétitive devenue frustrante aux difficultés élevées.

« The graphics are stunning and the lack of licenses, compared to its rival FIFA, is somewhat compensated with the presence of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and Copa Santander Libertadores. But when the game starts things seems a bit awkward. First, the rhythm of the game is annoyingly fast. Second, the team positioning is not compact as it should be. Defenders sit much deep and attackers go forward, creating a huge empty space at the centre of the pitch. Some animations look stupid. But one thing in the game impressed me a lot. There are so many imprevisible manners to score a goal and all of them looks like it could have happen in a real match. »
« I was a old FIFA-Fanboy (since 1998), but 2010 I change to PES and fall in love. Brilliant gameplay, brilliant atmosphere and with the PESEDIT-Patch you got all license, teams, transfers and leagues you need. Then you add more gameplay-feeling with Jenkey's Gameplaypatch and the game was complete. »
« No kidding this is really PES, it is as if Konami did not improve the graphics engine and still many errors. I think Konami should take more time to design as it was for the last time. I wonder if you still love him? From my part I prefer FIFA 12 which has seriously improve since 2011. it deserves a 1/10. TOO DISAPPOINTING!!!!!! »
