Description (IGDB)

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a side-scrolling 2.5D Mario platformer for the Wii and the tenth game in the Super Mario series. In addition to the single-player experience, New Super Mario Bros. Wii also features a multiplayer mode for up to four players. This is the first Super Mario game to feature co-op and vs. modes at the same time since Mario Bros. It features more items, new levels, and more enemies than the DS predecessor. The game introduces two new power-ups, the Propeller Mushroom and the Penguin Suit, which turn characters into their propeller and penguin forms, respectively.

Histoire (IGDB)

Today is Princess Peach’s birthday, so her castle is full of presents. Mario and Luigi are there, and they’re celebrating with the Toads and Princess Peach when a huge birthday cake arrives. Who in the world could it be from? Suddenly, Bowser Jr. and minions jump out of the cake. Everyone is shocked and pandemonium ensues. In a flash, the invaders snatch Princess Peach and fly away in a giant Airship. The Toads are in a panic! Mario and Luigi—and Yellow Toad, Blue Toad and Yoshi too!—pursue the Airship in order to rescue Princess Peach. Together, the four head out on an adventurous journey!

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

1UP 100/100

« For every developer or publisher who's ever dreamed of pushing beyond the demographic limitations of "hardcore" or "casual" gamers, here is how you do it. And were that universal appeal NSMB Wii's sole achievement, it would be one of the most important games in recent memory. But, no: It's also ridiculously fun. [Grade = A+] »

Nintendo Life 100/100

« New Super Mario Bros. brings all of the classic fun from past Super Mario Bros. releases together in one amazing greatest hits-style gameplay experience and does so in a way that only Nintendo themselves can do. If you only buy one game for your Wii console for the rest of your life, make sure it's this one. »

N-Europe 100/100

« A truly great Mario title and a bold and brilliant new multiplayer direction for the series. Buy it now! »

Kombo 100/100

« New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the latest in a long line of grade-A Nintendo side-scrolling platformers. Loads of warm nostalgia mixes with fresh level design to form the most fun you'll have with the Wii this year (and probably well into 2010, too). »

Gaming Target 97/100

« From the opening title screen to the epic final battle, New Super Mario Bros. Wii has everything a fan of the franchise could ever want. »

Official Nintendo Magazine UK 96/100

« Bigger, better and harder than NSMB DS, this is the Mario game we were waiting for. Essential. [Dec 2009, p.96] »

Nintendojo 96/100

« The game does not innovate with anything, other than the multiplayer aspect. However, New Super Mario Bros. Wii lives up to its pedigree and provides an amazing experience reminiscent of older Mario platformers. »

Vandal 95/100

« This is an impressive game with a gameplay that will be talked about. »

CarEater 8/10

« New super fun, almost lost long time friends because of this game but it was worth it to get to world 9 (Spoilers but not really because come on the game has been out for nearly 20 years). Sort of disappointing that the interesting playable characters stop at Mario and Luigi. No one WANTS to play the yellow or blue Toad. Let me play as Wario or let me unlock playable peach at the end. Overall very fun, I have no idea how kids are supposed to finish this, it is VERY challenging at times. Side note: The new power-ups like the penguin suit and the (not so new) small blue mushroom are very under-utilized. I barely ever used them. On the contrary, the new helicopter mushroom was TOO useful, if you find a level too challenging you can start with one of them and just fly over the stage. I know power-ups are supposed to aid but instead of helping overcome the challenge it just helps me avoid it. Wahoo. »

Copy_Alter 7/10

« It's similar to the previous DS game and adds new mechanics and co op mode that is pretty wacky. It recycles some stuff from the previous game, but still pretty decent. »

Oocoo_M 7/10

« This game is entertaining like most of the levels but it doesn’t include a lot of hidden and hard secret exists to get to »

Kuroti101 9/10

« I think that's a good game, but it probably got a lower score because it's 2D and simple; it deserved the score it got. »

xrraxer 10/10

« Way better than Mario Bros Wonder and this game is chaotic fun with better puzzling around and just more enjoyable. If you have people to play with this is the game to go with. It's a shame that Mario Bros Wonder couldn't live up to this game for the expectations it already set. Mario Bros Wonder removed a very key thing this game had which was throwing people and carrying them. That was one of the core things that made multi-player fun in Mario Bros Wii. This game also just has unique levels with cool exits to get you to cannons. Mario Bros Wii may almost be 17 years old but it's definitely still worth the playthrough. »

Ardahel 9/10

« Incredible game!! The levels are nice and graphics too. It was a nice game to do with my parents when a was a kid. Not boring at all. »

SonicSweeps79 2/10

« New Super Mario Bros. Wii somehow takes the already safe formula of New Super Mario Bros. and stretches it into a louder, messier, more chaotic experience without actually making it better. The level design is still stuck in “baby’s first platformer” mode, but now you’ve got multiplayer turning every stage into a slapstick accident simulator. Instead of clever innovation, it’s just noise—same ideas, bigger screen, more distractions. It feels like Nintendo played it so safe they forgot to make it **** yeah, watching IShowSpeed fumble through it doesn’t help either—man plays like he’s fighting the controller instead of the game. At some point you gotta ask: is the game too easy, or is he just that committed to being chaotic trash at platformers? Either way, it’s not a great look. »

QuestionBlock 9/10

« Used to play this a lot and still do, one of my favorite Wii games of all time. »
