Nintendo Life 90/100

« It would be simple to write off NES Remix as something only die-hard retro gamers would enjoy, but developer indies zero is really on to something here — the 200+ challenges are short enough to be interesting and fun to replay, but not long enough to outstay their welcome. »

USgamer 90/100

« Simple, addictive, and incredibly replayable, NES Remix is one of the smartest games Nintendo has made in ages. No one in gaming (save perhaps Sega) owns as rich a back catalog as Nintendo, and this is a great way to rework all those musty black-box NES games into a form that feel palatable to a contemporary audience. »

NintendoWorldReport 90/100

« If you can get behind the notion of old school difficulty and adore the WarioWare formula, NES Remix will hit all the right notes. »

Meristation 85/100

« NES Remix is an instant classic easy to learn but challenging to finish. Great game with some of the best NES games. However, this kind of product needs leaderboards and some classic games like Super Mario Bros 3 or Kid Icarus. »

Nintendojo 83/100

« NES Remix is defined more by the sum of its parts than its individual pieces, so have no hesitation in jumping headfirst into this excellent retro experience. »

Games Master UK 83/100

« A brilliant reminder of Ninty's design genius, hampered by iffy game selection. [March 2014, p.83] »

IGN 80/100

« It’s a clever and challenging way to experience the classics without just retreading old ground. »

Polygon 80/100

« Even with some bumps, it reinvigorated my interest in classic gaming and kept me glued to my gamepad. I felt like I was really learning mechanics the entire time I was playing — and those skills were put to the test in creative, devious ways. »

« +Funny Remix designs +Various games +A variety of challenges -Re-play value is lower -The main system saw in the smart-phone game -Some level design is too difficult »

« 7/10 NES Remix is a game that is really the greatest anthem to Nintendo fans + Remix stages + Greatest parts of iconic games + Difficult challenges + Mission Rating - Missing some games - Some challenges are just dull »

PhantomMac 7/10

« This is enjoyable to play lots of familiar mini-games that keep getting slightly more difficult. It is a great trip down memory lane of the older Nintendo games and is a good challenge to try and beat a few levels every now and then. Great price on the eShop. »

VonSeux 9/10

« At first this can seem like an easy cash-in for Nintendo, but it is acctually a blast to play. If you ever consider presenting the history of videogames to someone who has never played 8bit games this is the very best way to introduce them, it challanges the player to do every little blueprint from games of old while offering a modern, fast, and engaging presentation. Totally worth the prince. I rather unlock everything on this game than re-play the original games, it is that good. A nostalgia bomb for some, a videogame school for others. »

DeeMoney 8/10

« Seriously, what's not to like about this game. Plenty of fun from NES days past. So many lvls to try. Great for the price. Does get repetitive, especially when trying to get rainbow stars on everything. »

« NES Remix is a good idea, a great one. The best way to sum it up is like WarioWare's short bursts of challenge, but with the focus on 'remixing' classic NES games to make up these minigames. It starts out as simple as simply speedrunning a Mario level we've seen hundreds of times before, or reaching the top of a level in Donkey Kong Jr, but the creativity increases a lot, and before you know it, you're blazing through a series of highly creative challenges that put a real twist on classic gameplay found in the selection of NES games that are featured in NES Remix. These challenges are each unique and can involve anything from having to beat a snowy Mario level without stopping to playing through a level that's completely silhoutted. These genuinely inventive ideas apply to these remix challenges that are based on a whole amount of classic NES games. Sadly, these remixes don't make up most of the game- most of the levels are simply short challenges with no twist just based on reaching a particular goal, for example performing a certain action in Excitebike. While this is fun, it's not addictive and this is how NES Remix fails to deliver. It could have been a great game if all the challenges were remixes, but sadly the remixes make up but a fraction of the overall game, meaning you'll usually be playing through ordinary, uninventive minigames. Not bad ones, but not a huge amount of fun, either. In NES Remix there's an emphasis on beating each challenge as fast as possible, and depending on how fast you are, you are graded one, two or three stars. This increases the lasting appeal of challenges, however the lack of online leaderboards is a massive disappointment and it's another way NES Remix shows promise but fails to deliver. Overall, though NES Remix is a very good idea, it simply doesn't live up to the promise it first shows. You're bound to have some fun playing these games, as they're all to some degree exciting (yes, even the ones based on NES games like Baseball). But it could have been so much better had it lived up to its potential. »
