« NBA Showtime (Dreamcast): Pure chaos, zero apologies. This game is a violent cartoon pretending to be basketball. It moves like someone spilled Monster Energy on the circuit board. Players teleport, the ball defies physics, and the AI plays like it has a personal vendetta against you. But if you can master the sacred technique of flooring the ball handler every time they touch it, over and over again, you’ve basically unlocked Showtime’s highest form of disrespect. Timing the shove just right as some pixelated freak goes up for a dunk is a skill. A dark art. You’ll never be more proud of anything that stupid. The animations and high-octane noises are equally satisfying and panic-inducing, but that’s part of the charm. It’s loud, broken, and proud of it. A beautiful mess of arcade absurdism. Every game somehow ends up tied with five seconds left. The code feels addicted to buzzer-beaters, like it needs to rig itself for maximum drama, as if it’s being broadcast live to the gods. Without the glitchy, unhinged energy? It’s a 7.5. With it? Hard 9. Have a drink. Maybe three. Ideally four. Smoke a joint. Take some shrooms. It’ll make you smile endlessly while flooding you with swarms of panic and dread. You’ll scream, and just when you think you’re finally bored, some absurd, glitch-laden chain of events will send you into full-body laughter, collapsing to the floor, nearly pissing yourself. It’s Showtime. »
