NBA Inside Drive 2004, développé par High Voltage Software et publié par Microsoft Game Studios, est paru le 18 décembre 2003 sur Xbox. Classé dans les genres simulation et sport, ce jeu propose une simulation de basket-ball NBA en temps réel et en 3D avec des fonctionnalités de ligue en ligne. Les contrôles « juke » sont plus réactifs pour les mouvements d'isolement un contre un, et il est possible de jouer jusqu'à 25 saisons NBA avec des capacités complètes de gestion générale. Un nouvel angle caméra Drive Cam rapproche le joueur de l'action et une foule en 3D est présente. Le titre accepte un ou plusieurs joueurs, le jeu en ligne exigeant une connexion Internet. Sa note agrégée s'élève à 82,00.
Concernant l'accueil, la presse a salué certaines qualités du titre. Operation Sports a ainsi recommandé : « If you are the type of person who cares more about gameplay and is looking for a sim-like basketball experience, run out and get this game as soon as possible.… ». Next Level Gaming a également exprimé son appréciation en écrivant : « I have yet to play a game even against the computer that I have not enjoyed with Inside Drive 2004. It does a lot, but it doesn't try to do too much, which I h… ». De son côté, un joueur cité sur Metacritic a témoigné de son attachement au jeu d'origine Xbox : « This is by far one of my favorite games from the Original Xbox.
