ESPN College Hoops 2K5, développé par Visual Concepts et publié par Sega, a été lancé le 17 novembre 2004 sur les consoles PlayStation 2 et Xbox. Classé dans les genres simulation et sport, le jeu propose une expérience complète de basket-ball universitaire. Son mode Legacy invite le joueur à faire acquérir du prestige à un petit collège pour finir par décrocher un emploi au sein d'un grand programme, et une fonctionnalité en ligne permet de mesurer ses compétences contre des joueurs du monde entier.

Concernant les retours de la presse, Operation Sports a exprimé son sentiment après deux semaines de jeu intensif en affirmant : « Well…I'm two weeks into playing this game non-stop and the other shoe hasn't dropped. I can't find a major problem with this game, and I've just been enjoying … ». De même, Play Magazine a livré son observation technique dans son numéro de janvier 2005 en notant : « Gameplay was virtually lag-free and response time was so smooth, it rivaled any other sports game played online. [Jan 2005, p.80] ».
