Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

« The updated visuals and online functionality are welcome improvements, but if you've already spent hours nailing high scores and low times four years ago, the events haven't changed drastically enough to warrant two purchases. »
« Mario and Sonic 2014 certainly has its issues, but it’s definitely a step above previous titles in terms of event design and overall enjoyment. It’s a more complex and engaging than the usual minigame menagerie, and the distinct franchise twists in the Dream Events are a welcome bit of fanservice. It’s not a gold medal winner just yet, but Mario and Sonic 2014 is a stronger contender than it’s ever been before. »
« Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is exactly what it says it is: an Olympics game with Mario and Sonic. While it is fun, it doesn’t necessarily do anything past entries didn’t do. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, because overall it is a fun formula, despite some of its flaws. »
« It is entertaining as before, but don’t expect any progress of the snowy mascot battle. »
« Sonic and Mario leaves a good impression, offering interesting arguments for those who want an experience for multiple players. »
« Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games isn’t all that bad, but it’s not great either. The controls for a lot of the events are iffy at best, but there are events that are still enjoyable, especially the Dream Events. This is one where I’d check out the demo or rent it first to see if you like it before plunking down $50 for it. »
« After three entries, the series felt like it needed some serious polish and some new ideas, and the passage on a new hardware seemed to be the perfect occasion: instead, this is just another Mario & Sonic game with a couple of new modes and the same old ups and downs. »
« Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014 is very similar to its predecessors, managing to entertain and persuade only party games enthusiasts. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« The 2nd favorite Mario and Sonic game, it’s really fun (although I’m mostly biased with nostalgia). »
« This does not hold itself like other olympic games. Not only is it a WII U game that needs a WII extra controller, I add that the sports aren't that good. I'm not a fan for sports like ski to begin with but they're more difficult to pick up than 2016. With this said it has the best story mode but I never bringed myself to play it because I physically can not do these sports. »
« in my opinion this is not the worst one in the series i think that goes to beijing 2008, the graphics are good the games are fun and the "campaign" is alright but one thing i don't like is that to unlock mii clothes you have to do challenges other than that its a good multiplayer party game »
« This is often regarded as the worst Mario & Sonic game, but I think it's one of the best. No, seriously! The graphics look beautiful, even for the WiiU, and the gameplay feels pretty smooth. Most of it's events are pretty good and it has a nice roster. There's really not much else to say. »
« i love this game, i used to play it all of the time when i was a kid, the graphics for a 2013 game are really good, the sports were really fun, loved playing this game with friends, if you haven't played this game give it a shot. »
« Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is a mouthful to say and is decent to play. The games are fun but it’s a bit too similar to the first Olympic Winter Games. It’s also kind of annoying that you have to use the Wii remote for some of the games instead of the fantastic Wii U Gamepad. Either separate the games by their controllers or have all of them be functional with all controllers. A year later after making this review, I've liked it more since then. »

« Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is another installment of the popular Mario & Sonic series to represent the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The series features a nearly identical cast of characters with some different ways of playing events cleverly using the GamePad and Wii Remote together, though if you don't have a Wii Remote (MotionPlus required) or don't play co-op with friends it can get quite boring after while. The game features a varied selection of winter events, including skiing, snowboarding, bobsleighing and curling. The game can be played with a variety of characters, 10 from Team Mario, and 10 from Team Sonic. These include the mascot characters Mario and Sonic, as well as supporting characters like Luigi, Tails and Knuckles, and famous antagonists such as Bowser, Bowser Jr., and Dr. Eggman. These characters are all classified into four different categories: All-Around types, Speed types, Power types and Skill types. Finally, the player can also choose Miis from their console to use, with weight and height being taken into consideration to decide the classification of the character. The player can also fully customise their Mii, giving them gear and accessories, often referencing the Mario and Sonic games themselves and sometimes even some third-party games like The Legend of Zelda and Super Monkey Ball. In conclusion, the game does have a wide variety of events available, but they can only fully be taken advantage of with a Wii Remote (MotionPlus required) and playing co-op with friends or family, else it'll get boring pretty quick. The character selection seems decent, though the lack of a story mode like the handheld version fail to tie them together. Online capabilities seem good as you can play with anyone around the globe, and the series has so much potential entering its next installment, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, scheduled for release this year for the 3DS and Wii U. Using some of the ideas from this game, Nintendo need to add some sort of story mode for consoles, though the character selection has been massively improved. Additionally, some copies of the game could come bundled with a Wii Remote with MotionPlus so it's easier to play co-op and fully play the events. Overall, a great game, and not too pricey too. »
