Développé par Full Fat et édité par Electronic Arts, le titre est décrit comme étant très proche de son prédécesseur dans sa structure globale.
Du côté de l'accueil critique, les retours se montrent plutôt sévères. GamingXP souligne une durée de vie courte, estimée à quatre heures, et exprime une déception quant à la qualité du gameplay au vu de cette brièveté. Game Informer juge quant à lui les mécaniques de jeu ennuyeuses et estime que les fans de l'univers seront déçus par la représentation maladroite du climax de la saga. Les avis de joueurs sur Metacritic divergent quelque peu : l'un d'eux considère le jeu comme « passable » pour qui apprécie l'action et les explosions, tandis qu'un autre signale simplement la présence de révélations sur l'intrigue dans son commentaire.

« This new Harry Potter game isn't terrible, (like the others) but it's just below average. Graphics range from very good to quite ugly, and the story is just non-existent. The different characters seem fun at first, but then you realise they all function the SAME! However, the gameplay is good, with a fun shooting mechanic, but having to do basically the same game OVER and OVER again! And that's what this game is; it's a lazy, repetitive, faceless mess! »

I rented this game and finished it in just under 4 hrs. ARE U KIDDIN ME!? The stupid dim-witted developers abominated the book and movie with Call of Duty, Gears of War style shooting game. The only positive thing I can say about this game is it follows with the movie other than that, this is just a cheap, rushed, knock off.â »
