Développé par Mediatonic et édité par Devolver Digital puis Epic Games, Fall Guys est sorti le 4 août 2020 sur PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Android et iOS. Propulsé par le moteur Unity, le titre se classe dans les genres course, plateforme et indépendant, proposant une expérience multijoueur en ligne gratuite prenant en charge la progression croisée via un compte Epic Games.
Le jeu plonge les participants dans le Blunderdome, une émission de télévision interstellaire où des candidats en forme de haricots, dépourvus de mémoire, s'affrontent dans une série d'épreuves chaotiques pour remporter des couronnes. Les manches s'enchaînent, mêlant courses d'obstacles basées sur la physique et épreuves de survie, jusqu'à ce qu'un seul vainqueur subsiste ; les éliminés sont instantanément remplacés par des copies identiques, perpétuant une compétition sans fin diffusée à travers l'univers.
Au-delà des modes compétitifs et coopératifs autorisant des groupes de quatre joueurs maximum, Fall Guys intègre un mode créatif permettant de concevoir et de partager des parcours personnalisés. Le contenu évolue régulièrement au gré des collaborations et mises à jour introduisant de nouveaux costumes, obstacles et mécaniques, tandis qu'un système de personnalisation étendu — couleurs, motifs, plaques nominales, célébrations — s'accompagne d'une boutique proposant des achats intégrés optionnels.
Côté réception, le jeu affiche une note Metacritic de 80 et une note agrégée de 77,54. La presse a salué l'accessibilité du concept, Gaming Age soulignant qu'il offre une alternative bienvenue aux battle royales traditionnels pour les joueurs moins adeptes des réflexes purs, tandis que LEVEL mettait en avant un plaisir addictif et familial, hilare même dans la défaite. Du côté des joueurs, les avis divergent : certains regrettent un lancement mal chronologiqué ou un déclin perçu depuis le rachat par Epic Games, d'autres vantent au contraire un party-game immédiat, dynamique et propice aux fous rires, dans la lignée d'émissions comme Intervilles.

« The existence of Fall Guys is a boon for those who wish to partake in the battle royale craze, but lack the dexterity and fast reflexes a shooter requires. The highs are high and the lows are low. Games flow pretty quickly and there’s definitely a playerbase for the title for now. Let’s hope Mediatonic will develop more features such as new events, the ability to create private lobbies, crossplay and make it available on platforms it didn’t launch on. If this first week is any indication, we’re in for a lot of Fall Guys this Fall, guys! »
