ESPN NHL 2K5, sorti le 30 août 2004 sur Xbox et PlayStation 2, est une simulation de hockey sur glace développée par Kush Games et éditée par Sega. Le jeu propose les commentaires de Gary Thorne à la description des actions et de Bill Clement à l'analyse, et il constitue le dernier titre NHL publié par Sega. Sur le plan critique, Operation Sports a qualifié le titre de version visuellement séduisante, agréable à l'oreille et fluide du NHL, mêlant assez de simulation à une touche d'arcade, tandis que Play Magazine a jugé dès décembre 2004 qu'il s'agissait peut-être du meilleur jeu de hockey jamais joué. De son côté, un joueur sur Metacritic a vu en ESPN NHL 2K5 une réponse remarquable aux jeux de sport, évoquant un ressenti initial évoluant avec le déroulement de la partie.
