Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi

« It's not the first game that claims to be ultimate, but Ultimate Tenkaichi actually turns out to be a near-perfect Dragon Ball gaming experience. Lots of content, a great Be a Hero mode and destructible environments await. »
« Beautifully flawed. »
« Fun but flawed. While the anime cutscenes are awesome, the story is more often told through extremely slow moving walls of text. While the characters all have their original voice actors (or very similar voice actors in the case of some of the villains), the music is very generic. While the battles have lots of satisfying quick time events and cutscenes, the load times in the game are absolutely criminal. »
« Spike says goodbye to the series Dragon Ball Z with a flawed but interesting episode, which clearly surpasses the insipid performance Raging Blast 2. The gameplay is irregular and its fighting system will appeal to some players but will be a disaster for others. Matter of taste. »
« Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi is an interesting evolution for this epic franchise. Spike did a great job trying to create a combat system as simple as dynamic, but the result of this operation is the lack of variety in the final experience. This could be the first step for a brand new saga about the Dragon Ball universe. »
« At the end of the day, Dragonball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi is an interesting game that provides plenty of fan service. If you have never played the series before, you might be confused by the over the top battles that for me is reminiscent of the excellent TV series Monkey Magic. Unfortunately like most Dragonball Z games, Ultimate Tenkaichi is a little like rock paper scissors when it comes to combat that focuses more on luck opposed to skill. Nonetheless, it's a fun romp through the Dragonball Z universe! »
« Without doubts, Ultimate Tenkaichi is the best Dragon Ball game in terms of contents and visual appeal, but it's still a shallow fighting game where luck and fate are more important than players' skill. »
« In the end, I found myself sticking to the story mode more than anything (which was short, but decent enough), but I just couldn't get into the game. I have to commend Spike on replicating the look of the anime, but I felt I was left with a shallow experience. Hardcore DBZ fans will probably find it the game worth it and battling fellow fans online might be a good way to pass the time. »

« This is honestly worse than I remember. Let's go over the pros of the game. Soundtrack sounds very great. The game looks visually great. Voice acting is amazing. The 2D animated cutscenes are amazing. Also love that they have the Cha-La-Head-Cha-La song for the game's intro. And yeah that's it. No I'm dead serious. I'm gonna be straight. This game is very bad. Notice how I didn't say ANYTHING about the gameplay? Well it **** ass. It's literally rock paper scissors. The "combat" is just attack with square. Press one button over and over to do the combo. Attack with square again. Do it with the other button. Rinse and repeat. No changing your combos. Nothing. The game is just braindead easy where you can win with mostly just spamming one button and sometimes just two buttons. The animations felt way too similar to where they don't feel diffeent at all. The cinematics are too similar to where it feels repetitive. Characters have good animation in some cutscenes but mostly, there is no animations. They all move in the cutscenes in the exact same way. The giant battles aren't really designed well and my god the button mash segment is horrible. I couldn't get through the Great Ape Vegeta fight until I had to look at the comments of an old video. I was literally mad at the way to beat it. The recovering mechanic doesn't work half the time and the counter mechanic **** ass and has bad timing. The roster is just... pitiful. I wouldn't have to say that if this isn't a tenkaichi game. But since it is technically a tenkaichi game, yeah this seems pitiful compared to Budokai Tenkaichi 3 with a much bigger roster filled with so many characters. Also there's literally no point in adding in GT characters since the only ones they added in are SSJ4 Gogeta and Omega Shenron. I would say Great Ape Baby Vegeta but he doesn't count because he is only available in the hero mode. They could've added in Pan, GT Trunks, GT Vegeta, hell SSJ4 Vegeta, SSJ4 GOKU, GT Goku, Super 17, any of the other Shenrons. Also yeah the hero mode? It's okay at best. Character creation is fun but is way too shallow. Story though is really mid. Not all that good. The voice acting despite being very great, is way too inconsistent. What do I mean by this? Well for certain characters. They keep switching their voices from the Kai dub voices to the original english Funimation dub. It's way too distracting. I mean take a look at Kid Gohan and Teen Gohan. The story mode is also not great because it's just mostly told through expedition and cuts a lot of stuff out. Overall, this is definitely one of the worst Dragon Ball games I have ever played filled with braindead easy and repetitive gameplay that's way too boring. A lackluster adaptation of the story from the anime. And a disappointing roster. Just play DBZ Kakarot, FighterZ, any of the Budokai games, any of the Budokai Tenkaichi games, any Raging Blast games, or hell even any of the Xenoverse games. »
« Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi is a great game for fans of the Dragon Ball anime. My only problem is that when it comes creating a character you do not have as much freedom as with Xenoverse, altho the choices you can choose are still splended. The story mode acts like it's own timeline and is a complete new story before Dragon Ball Super came out, I'd love to see an updated version if this was ever possible. There are multiple things in the game you can do but the only part that is interesting to me is the story mode. The open world concept is interesting but I with it wasn't limited to earth. The best thing about the fighting is you get a combo based on your master, something many hope for Xenoverse 3, and of course you get to use their moves. »
« Note: Online still works as of May 2024 and no online pass is needed. Not the best DBZ game out there. This is a difficult game to review. It’s one of the worst DBZ games that have been released, but it’s nowhere near as bad as the professional reviews made it out to be. It has a lot of problems and the big one is that it isn’t really a Tenkaichi game. A lot of the gameplay comes down to rock paper scissors style choices, so a lot of the fighting gameplay is based on luck. Other than that, there’s not that many characters in the roster and the brand new plot they went with was underwhelming. On the plus side it’s a very graphically pretty game. The stage damage and the way ingame cutscenes are woven into combat both look fantastic. In short there are a lot of better DBZ fighters out there but give this a go if you’ve played all of them and are willing to put up with a less interesting fighting system. »
« Just generally not very fun I can't imagine someone thinking a fighting game should be based on essentially quicktime events and quicktime events only. »
« Despite all the hate, this was great DBZ game that goes full on epic to represent the anime. »
« This was my first ever Dragon Ball Z game I had touched, and this was how I got into Dragon Ball. It is certainly not the best game, and it has its flaws. The basic combat outside of executing cinematic chains is lacking and gets repetitive after a while, the roster could use a tid bit more characters, and it could use more story cutscenes instead of text boxes to sum up the in-betweens of the story. But for what it's worth, it's a decently good and enjoyable Dragon Ball Game. The music is dope, you got the classic story (Which in my case, was done nicely to get caught up with the basics of Dragon Ball), graphics look great, the cinematic scenes are enjoyable to watch, and the Hero Mode will be the most fun you'll find in this game. While there is plenty I would've wished to be implented within the game to make it better (What is essentially an Epic Rock Paper Scissors fighting game, or Beta Pokken Tournament), I DARE to say that calling this the worst Dragon Ball game there is, is an exaggeration. »
« Best Game ever! Wegen i See a Hater i swear i Punch in your face like goku! »
