Dr. Mario World

Game Informer 88/100

« Despite the monetization method, Dr. Mario World is a fun puzzle game, and the World moniker signifies that this is more than just another Dr. Mario remix. This is the most dramatic reinvention of Dr. Mario since the series’ inception, and I often had trouble putting my phone down before the battery ran dry. Nintendo plans to update this game with new levels down the road, so this is one flu season I look forward to revisiting. »

« Dr. Mario World delivers a fresh take to the Nintendo series: a nice puzzler with plenty of levels, colorful graphics and a compelling multiplayer mode. »

Nintendo Life 80/100

« Dr. Mario World is very much a game of two halves. The single-player mode is fun in short bursts and short bursts only: lengthier sessions are impossible without regularly dropping real cash on it. Meanwhile, the multiplayer is an unrestricted delight, and the steady stream of available players means it could become your next obsession. Most importantly, both modes are built around a legitimately entertaining touchscreen twist on the standard Dr. Mario gameplay that makes plenty of changes, but clever ones that take the mobile format into account. It isn’t proper Dr. Mario, then, but – assuming you can keep your wallet in your pocket – what it is isn’t half bad. »

Nintendo Enthusiast 80/100

« Dr. Mario World is another solid entry in Nintendo’s mobile lineup. I was concerned that Dr. Mario World wouldn’t do enough to differentiate itself from the plethora of match-3 games on the market. However, its blend of classic Dr. Mario gameplay and new mechanics keeps things feeling fresh. I’ll certainly be playing this for a while to come. Maybe I’ll run into you on the battlefield! »

« An excellent videogame supplement, cared for and always fun, varied and intelligent. »

« With a good amount of content and smart game modes, Dr Mario World is greatly effective and offers a good take on micro-transactions in this kind of free-to-play game. »

XGN 70/100

« Dr. Mario is on call and he has to save the world. Or at least you have to on your mobile. The classic gameplay is updated with new elements to make the game last throughout the more than 100 levels. Unfortunately there are in-game purchases. »

Nintendo Force Magazine 70/100

« I prefer the Dr. Marios that I can pay for just one time, then play as much as I want for a few decades thereafter. [Issue #41 – September 2019, p. 20] »

« Why play this match game, when Pokemon Shuffle is superior? That is not even including all the other 3 match clones. »

« For the first 20 or so levels, I had a fair amount of enjoyment with this, and it was somewhat addictive, with new strategies added regularly. Following that though, the game was ruined by timers; if you're out of "hearts", you can't play. This combined with microtransactions, loot boxes, and the obnoxious "Ready, Go!" voice have turned me away from willing to progress further. »

« When you come far enough into the game, it gets harder and it becomes a paywall. Full of microtransactions and boring progression makes this unplayable. RIP to those parents who forgot to turn on the parent control into Apple store or Google Play... »

« This game is nowhere near as money-hungry as other reviews will have you believe. If you use up all 5 of your free lives (which won't happen until you are multiple 20-level worlds into it) you will be asked if you want to spend some money to buy more diamonds in order to purchase new lives. At this point you can simply go play the unlimited multiplayer mode which is fantastic. The only issues I have with it are that 4000 coins to unlock a new character seems a bit too much and that it requires constant online connection. I have had hours of fun with it. »

« I've been playing Dr Mario for a multiple sessions over a few weeks and I love it. It's a great game. It's a little on the easy side, but I do not use any of the special abilities available to me and that makes the challenge decent enough to keep from being boring. But I would still like it to be more difficult. I am never truly in jeopardy of losing and 3-star most boards without having to repeat them. There is grumbling about the pay-mechnacis, but personally I believe the pay mechanics are PERFECT. That is to say, completely optional. I do not interact with ANY of the pay mechanics and it has not affected my game in the slightest. So for all intents and purposes, they don't exist to me. It's just a game. Any potential buyers DO need to be aware, though, that this is NOT classic Doctor Mario as it was released on the NES years ago. This is a bit of a "reverse" Doctor Mario that plays in a different manner. It is much more complex but, when you get the hang of it, just as fun. »

« This game is so boring it's not dr Mario it's a easier virus buster with Mario and friends. With cramped in micro transactions and not caring about it in its current state the game is awful. Also the ending is dumb and expected. The music is great though »

« I have been playing for hours and let me tell you micro-transactions are not required in order to compete, neither it brings any kind of competitive advantage, they are mainly used for buying diamonds which allow you to buy lives( not having to wait 2.5 hours in order to re stock) . YES I would rather prefer to pay 10 usd and leave micro transactions aside BUT the market appears to love micro transactions, 5 to 1 it seems if we analyze mario run ( one time pay) vs other mobile nintendo games with microts . THIS GAME IS SUPER ADDICTIVE and well made, I don’t know if it is not a perfect adaptation to the original but is is super fun and well made, remember nintendo is launching these mobile games for positioning its franchises with non console gamers, they really don’t care much for the impact of their revenue on this field , they see it more as marketing for creating future switch owners. That said this game deserves an 8.5 at least ! »
