Day of Infamy
Day of Infamy

« At £14.99 this game is a solid investment for time and money. Get ready to use your brain and your senses, or else be prepared to get killed on the regs by unseen enemies – that’s right, there was no ‘killcam’ in the 1940s… »
« Day of Infamy is filling the blank for WW2 shooters, its a fine combination of realism and fun. »
« If you are in search of an hardcore online shooter, Day of Infamy is the game for you. »
« The biggest gripe I have with the game is that it is dated. Yea, yea, graphics don't matter but in a sense they also do. Day of Infamy is based on the Source engine which is now 13 years old. Give me a more modern take of this game and it would rival the best in the FPS gig. Even with that said I still can't stop going back and wanting more. Day of Infamy is one of the most tactical and hardest FPS I have ever played. It reminds me of the Dark Souls series in the fact that at first it can be very difficult but once you start to learn the maps and how to utilize the classes to your benefit you can slowly start seeing your score and skill building. Honing that skill is where I am at now and I a loving every minute of it. I die less and am way smarter on my approach which benefits not only myself but the success of the team and a more enjoyable experience. For an entry price of $20 this game is an absolute steal and if you are in a lull with Call of Duty or Battlefield you will in no doubt fill the gap with Day of Infamy. »
« The inexorable focus on realism won't suit people looking for fast entertainment. But if you dive into Day of Infamy, it will be very difficult for you to get out of there. Except for a few issues, this is the second world war in full fame. [Issue#274] »
« Day of Infamy is a solid WWII FPS with its limited HUD creating room for immersion, its balanced gameplay, and a rather excellent price point. If you would like to jump into WWII before Call of Duty launches their version of the war, Day of Infamy wouldn’t be a faulty choice. »
« It's a very old-school shooter, but at the same time, very hard and strategic. It's hard to get to, but once you're in, it's a lot of fun. »
« Day of Infamy is another solid - though visually dated - tactical shooter from New World Interactive that benefits from the shift to a World War 2 setting, and the more distinct weaponry and greater context that comes with it. »

« One of the best WWII FPS out there, hardcore and with incredible ballistics, Fast paced and realistic, 100% recommended »
« Great game, fun in depth maps, gunplay is realistic but still you are auto healed when not shot at which I really like. AI is good. Voice acting is good. Surprisingly low download size. There is not a huge variety of weapons and no USSR but instead two anglo factions which I think is kind of weird. As far as I know you can't switch faction in game and that's also a con. »
« Really fun! None of that bullet sponge milliong things on your hud type of crap! »
« Best hardcore ww2 shooter out there! Fast paced and realistic! Just be careful when you start, death is everywhere! »
« Absolutely god tier fps (this coming from a person who has played since the nineties!) Historically accurate (mostly) and realistic before anything else and yet its so fast paced it is so much fun!!! »

« After reading the negative reviews against this game, I think I can summarize them as criticisms against Source Engine, the lacking area of intense overhauling, and smaller issues that are matters of perspective and hardware. I'll first address what I believe to be the elephant in the room: "Day of Infamy is a reskin of Insurgency (2014)." My simple answer to this is, yes. Day of Infamy, built from a mod for Insurgency, intentionally a similar experience of attention to detail regarding gunplay, and further expands on its focus by making historical accuracy a relevant part of the game. Furthermore, the level of polish with which the game brings to the conflict of WW2 makes the game entertaining and a significant change from the base game. Being forced to use either bolt-action or relatively low-powered automatic weapons, a contrast from Insurgency's focus of modern and tactically adaptible weaponry, it creates a level of focus and new understanding to the way the game is played. You simply can't play Day of Infamy in the same way as Insurgency. With that out of the way, I'll move to the Source Engine. I will acknowledge that the Source Engine does have limitations. This is made more obvious by the fact that New World Interactive developed their following game on Unreal Engine rather than Source. I don't beleive it's a fair criticism that the Source Engine significantly limits the games enjoyment. While it comes with certain hitches (performance, controls, quality), it shows the tenacity and aspiration for which the devs are responsible. They have shown creativity in furthering the usage of Source beyond what they accomplished in 2014, and made a leap. It's unfair to say that Day of Infamy is not enjoyable or is not a good game because of some basic limiations of the Source Engine. (I'm not trying to make an unfair comparison, but we've seen the potential of the Source Engine creating wonderful games [i.e. Half Life 2] and I think it's fair to say that the limitations of Source are observed in those games. It should not be unfairly used to criticize against this game.) Another area that I sort of understand is the lack of extended support by the modding community. Day of Infamy has wide support when it comes to mods, but it's nowhere near the amount of support that Insurgency has seen. I think rather than an argument that the game doesn't deserve it, I think it has to do with the basic Ethos (time period the game depicts) and the interest that most of us have. I think it's fair to say that Insurgency is more well received as it is moder, adaptible, can change and conform to current interests as it depicts a modern conflict. This isn't the case with Day of Infamy as it is based on historical events and conforms as such. This simple divide plays a significant part in the smaller amount of interest shown by the community. I will add on that I think the criticism is fair that the market is heavily saturated with WW2 shooters, and Day of Infamy is very good, but it is mostly focused on the audience of those who already played Insurgency and appreciated the gunplay aspect. Finally, I'd like to express my personal thoughts that the game does fantastic things. Limitations are the catalyst for creativity, something evident in Day of Infamy. I still have fun playing it and would recommend it to people who have played and enjoyed Insurgency but are ready for a new fling. »
« A game that tries to be Red Orchestra and Medal of Honor Multiplayer at once and fails. While I can appreciate the genius artstyle and mindblowing sound-design that doesn't need to hide behind Battlefail, its still a chore. You spent most of the time waiting or cursing because you can't change the team! And you know whats the most relaxing thing after work? Playing a s a mass-murdering **** because the game-mode doesn't allow you to change anything. If this wasn't bad enough, the lag and stupid choke-points on the maps kill the fun you have faster, than you can refund this game! If this game tries to emulate the horrors and annoyance of war, it succeeds. You die often and you have to spend too much time with waiting and hoping it'll be worth this time. WHAT is it with "modern" shooters, that they can't get the gunplay and coop-experience right?! I've played mods for the old Doom that had better atmosphere and Coop-Support! »
