Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, développé par Valve et Hidden Path Entertainment, est un jeu de tir tactique à la première personne sorti le 21 août 2012 sur OS X, PlayStation 3, Windows et Xbox 360, puis sur Linux en 2014. Quatrième opus de la série Counter-Strike, ce titre oppose deux équipes, Terrorists et Counter-Terrorists, dans des manches à objectifs sur divers modes de jeu comme le désamorçage de bombe, la libération d'otages et le deathmatch. Un système d'économie permet aux joueurs d'acheter armes et équipements en début de round selon leurs performances précédentes, tandis que le matchmaking compétitif, les serveurs communautaires et un écosystème d'échange de skins soutiennent une large base de joueurs actifs. En décembre 2018, Valve a adopté un modèle free-to-play axé sur les objets cosmétiques. La presse a salué la permanence de la qualité de son cœur de jeu, comme l'a relevé Eurogamer, tandis que Destructoid a noté certaines absences de cartes et de fonctionnalités des opus passés. Certains joueurs expriment sur Steam un attachement marqué au titre, parfois teinté d'expériences communautaires négatives, et l'un d'eux évoque sur Metacritic le regret des nouvelles générations n'ayant pas connu ce pilier du FPS compétitif. Le jeu affiche un score Metacritic de 83 et un score OpenCritic de 82.
