American Idol
American Idol, développé par Mobius Entertainment et édité par Codemasters, est sorti le 7 novembre 2003 sur PC et PlayStation 2. Ce jeu de musique propose de créer, styliser et entraîner un candidat pour le faire progresser à travers les auditions, les manches éliminatoires et éventuellement la grande finale, avec des juges incarnés par des versions générées par ordinateur de Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul et Simon Cowell. Le gameplay repose sur un système de rythme où le joueur doit presser la bonne combinaison de boutons à l'écran pour chanter juste et danser, sous peine de voir la voix du candidat se dégrader et le public ou les juges se déstabiliser.
La presse a livré un accueil mitigé au titre. Next Level Gaming a estimé que le jeu ne serait pas le prochain « DDR » mais qu'il plairait aux jeunes filles de treize ans, tandis que Game Informer l'a qualifié de « titre rythmique non poli mais prometteur » dans son numéro de février 2004. Du côté des joueurs, certains ont jugé le jeu solide et proche des rhythm games PS2 habituels, à l'image d'un avis publié sur Metacritic le comparant à Disney High School Musical, même si un autre utilisateur a exprimé une forte animosité envers Simon Cowell tout en reconnaissant la qualité globale du jeu. L'agrégat de notes s'établit à 80,00.

« I think this is a pretty solid game and easily an 8/10 for me. It feels a lot like a regular PS2 rhythm game; it's pretty similar to Disney High School Musical 3: Senior Year Dance. and I really enjoy rhythm games, I had a lot of fun with this one. While there aren’t a huge number of songs, many of them are classics, which makes up for it. Overall. its fun »
