Adventure Land has left Early Access!
Forty new items are waiting to be found, crafted, and traded.
Rogues can now send a Fan of Knives at nearby enemies, and Mages have a new skill, Arcane Needle. New crafting recipes and rewards give you more to work toward, while eleven animated emotes and five new Citizens bring a little more life to the world.
Getting started is easier with an expanded Tutorial and Game Guide for manual play and CODE. JavaScript users now have a fully documented CODE API, and updated Steam clients are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
There's plenty more coming in September! Paladins are getting new ways to protect their party, four auras to choose from, Shield Slam, and their own Oathkeeper equipment. More content is on the way, along with Adventure Land's tenth-anniversary event.
I started Adventure Land in 2016, and now work on it with Oragon. You'll know me in-game as Wizard.
Adventure Land is an open-source indie MMORPG where ANYONE can CODE—not just one character, but a whole party.
You start by learning the game: fighting monsters, finding gear, exploring, and meeting other players. Play manually or try the working default CODE. You don't need programming experience to get started. When you're curious, open the editor and change one line at a time.
Then the game changes. Once you understand a routine, you can automate it. First potions and basic fights. Later, travel, farming, healing, trading, and a full party working together.
It becomes an idle MMORPG you can keep coming back to. A boss appears, an event starts, or your party is ready to farm somewhere new. You check in, see what happened, adapt your CODE, and send them out again.
Progress is fast at first. Levels and useful gear come quickly. Later, each level and equipment upgrade takes more time and effort. Your characters, items, and CODE stay with you. There are no seasonal wipes.
Build a capable party in months. Keep improving it for years.
Established players might look intimidating. They've had years to collect gear and improve their CODE, but you don't need a ten-year collection to join them at bosses and events. Learning the game and getting your party working well can take you a long way.
Control up to four characters at once, each running your own JavaScript CODE. Have a Priest heal your fighters, send a Merchant to sell what you've collected, or get the whole party working together.
CODE is built into the game. It can move characters, choose targets, use skills, manage items, trade, communicate, and react to what's happening around you. Start with something small and add to it as you learn. Playing one character manually is fine too.
Choose a Warrior, Paladin, Rogue, Ranger, Mage, Priest, or Merchant. Each has its own skills and equipment, whether you want to fight, heal, support your party, or make a living trading and gathering.
There are no skill trees to work through. Develop your characters through levels, equipment, upgrades, compounds, crafting, and learning what their skills can do.
Hunt a rare drop, gather materials for a craft, improve your equipment, or open a merchant stand. You trade with other players, so something your party doesn't need might be exactly what someone else is looking for.
Explore new maps, fight bosses together, try PvP, visit the tavern, and join seasonal events. Choose your own goals and take your time—even familiar monsters can still drop something useful.
The original promise was to open-source Adventure Land at 10,000 installs. That promise is now a reality.
Adventure Land is open source.
Read the client, server, and game data, see how things work, build your own tools or clients, and contribute improvements.
If you'd like help from an AI, you can connect a compatible client through MCP (Model Context Protocol). Create a private connection token in Mainframe to let it read the game guides and data, inspect your characters and saved CODE, and help you plan improvements.
It can help write or review JavaScript with your approval, and start or stop characters on Mainframe and read their logs. AI is entirely optional, and your characters still follow the same game rules.
Mainframe runs your CODE for you, so you don't have to leave your own computer on. Choose a character, saved CODE, and a realm. Check the logs when you come back to see what happened. You can manage it from the Mainframe dashboard or through MCP.
Mainframe is optional paid hosting. Normal play has no subscription or hourly charge. Playing manually or running CODE in your browser or Steam client never uses Mainframe hours.
Steam owners receive 250 included Mainframe hours shared across their linked Adventure Land accounts. Only CODE hosted on Mainframe uses those hours, whether your own client is open or closed. If you leave Mainframe running after the included hours are used, it renews with Shells. The cost and renewal terms are shown before you start it.
Cosmetics, extra bank storage, and optional Mainframe hosting help cover the cost of keeping Adventure Land running. You don't need to buy any of them to keep playing.
Buy a copy and keep playing for as long as you like. You can run your CODE on your own computer or a server, and community clients are welcome too!

Thanks a lot :)

A big update for Paladins!
Quite a big update for Paladins this time! The idea is to give them more ways to look after the people fighting beside them. Take some of the damage meant for a friend, clear a dangerous condition, or bring an aura that helps everyone nearby. There's more to do with your shield too. A Paladin in your party Cleansing Light, level 30: clear harmful combat conditions from an ally. Guardian's Oath, level 50: take 35% of an ally's damage for 8 seconds. The HP you lose from protecting them restores MP. Beacon of Resolve, level 70: give nearby friendly players 15 Fortitude and +1 to each type of Courage for 8 seconds. These aren't just skills for your own characters. You can help other players fighting alongside you too. Four auras to choose from Auras unlock at level 60. Carry one at a time and change it to suit the fight. They strengthen nearby friendly players, with stronger bonuses every 10 levels through level 110. Bulwark adds armor and HP. Sanctuary adds resistance and MP. Zeal helps your party attack faster and hit harder. Warding adds elemental and condition resistances, and reduces skill MP costs. Turn magical damage into MP Aether Shield unlocks at level 60 and replaces Mana Shield while active. It doesn't reduce damage. Instead, losing HP to magical hits restores MP: 50% of the HP lost at level 60, rising to 100% at level 110. Shield Slam Put your equipped shield to work! Shield Slam unlocks at level 60. Its base physical damage is 3 times Attack + 12 times Armor, counting up to 1,000 Armor, before damage modifiers and the enemy's defenses. It needs an equipped shield, has a base cost of 2,000 MP and a base cooldown of 0.6 seconds, and cannot critically strike or trigger item effects. Keeping your Paladin supplied matters. The Oathkeeper Set Five new pieces of Paladin equipment, with different ways to work toward them: Vowkeeper Gloves come from turning in materials to the Material Collector. Oathplate is crafted. Concord Mace can be earned with Monster Tokens. Resolute Sallet can be crafted or bought with PvP Tokens. Dawnward Aegis can drop from Skeletor. Wearing 2 pieces gives you a set bonus of 200 HP and 100 MP. With all 5, those bonuses reach 700 HP and 350 MP, along with extra armor, resistance, Fortitude, and Courage. Try them out and let us know how Paladins feel in your party. More rewards on your home server This change is meant to help players building a party on one server, especially newcomers who aren't set up to chase events across every realm. Your contribution still counts more at home when cooperative rewards are shared. More monsters now also have home-only material rewards: Reef Glass from Giga Crab, Storm Feathers from Phoenix, and Frost Cores from Ice Golem are a few examples. Quickly switching non-Merchant characters from the same account between servers can cause 30 minutes of Realm Fatigue. It pauses home contribution bonuses and home-only drops, but you can still fight and receive normal rewards. Merchants are exempt. If you haven't chosen a home yet, go see Bean in Mainland square. A couple of other changesMainframe can now run up to 4 characters together in one shared machine. It's still optional paid hosting; running CODE on your own computer has no hourly charge from Adventure Land. Gloam Pendant now gives less Dexterity, Intelligence, and skill MP reduction. Its MP growth is unchanged. And September isn't over... Adventure Land turns 10 this month, and the anniversary event is still ahead. There are more surprises on the way. Keep a little room in your bank! Thanks for all the feedback, and see you in-game! Wizard
August Update: Mainframe, 40 New Items, Expanded Guides and More
Hey Adventurer! August became a big month for Adventure Land. Mainframe, 40 new items, eleven new emotes, expanded guides, five new Citizens, a new Mage skill, new Steam clients, and a major CODE reliability update are all live. Mainframe keeps your CODE runningMainframe is Adventure Land's optional hosted CODE runtime. Choose an owned character, a saved CODE slot, and a live realm. The character can keep running inside an isolated, network-free machine after your browser closes.Steam owners receive 250 free Mainframe hours shared across their linked Adventure Land accounts. If you leave a Mainframe assignment running after the free hours are used, it renews with Shells under the terms shown before it starts.Playing manually or running CODE in your browser or Steam client has no hourly cost. You can run CODE there for as long as you like; the 250 hours apply only to optional Mainframe hosting after your own client is closed. 40 new items and new ways to earn them The new collection spans weapons, offhands, jewelry, armor, and crafting materials. Find them through crafting, shops, PvP Tokens, Ent drops, and new uses for materials. Rogues also gained Fan of Knives, an item-granted skill that sends five knives at nearby targets. Priests can begin the long craft toward the Worldroot Crook, a T4 staff made from a Harbringer +8 and rare materials. Level 90 Mages can now use Arcane Needle with a wand. It deals reduced damage while piercing resistance and reflection, and it keeps normal attack effects. 11 new emotes The New Misc. cosmetic box now contains gravestones and eleven unlockable emotes. High Five, Boop, and Spotlight let you interact with other players. Pocket Storm brings its own weather, Mirror Disco fills the floor with reflections, and Joy bursts into a bright pixel rainbow. Every emote has a matching sound. Drop Egg and Rising Hearts now unlock and work like other emotes too. A clearer Tutorial and Game Guide The Tutorial and Game Guide now explain both manual play and optional CODE paths. Nearby INFO guides point out world services, and CODE now covers more interactions, including duels, recovered-item shops, tavern games, and item de-statting. Five new Citizens also arrived. Rook shows routes through Desertland, Patch repairs idle Mechagnomes in Cyberland, Moss echoes fairy colors in the Mystical Forest, Wick leaves warm light through the Underground Tunnel, and Brio copies nearby emotes in the Tavern. A major CODE update Every public asynchronous CODE function now settles on a real server result. The public API is documented from end to end, server.status provides live server data, and custom clients can use the optional MessagePack transport. New Steam clients for Windows, Linux, and macOS The new Steam client now covers all three desktop platforms, with more reliable Steam login, clearer diagnostics, in-client Shells purchases, and separate music and sound-effect controls. Linux dependencies are bundled, and mouse item dragging is restored on Windows. You can also read Adventure Land's complete update history, going back to 2016, inside the game. Everything above is live now. Adventure Land is open source, development is moving again, and we'd love to see you back. Thank you to everyone building, testing, reporting, and playing.Ps.
